SUMMER REWIND: Packard Clocks Second Fastest 800 Meter Time in D3 History as Women’s Track Runs at BU

Boston, MA --- Earlier today the Women's Indoor Track and Field team competed at the BU Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University, where most of the competitors were Division I schools. 

The Engineers were led by Sydney Packard (Georgetown, MA) who finished the 800-meter run in 2:06.54, which is the second fastest time in NCAA Division III history. The only better time in Division III history was 0.01 seconds faster by Emily Richards, who is the former 2017 and 2018 NCAA champion in the indoor 800 meters and a 13-time NCAA champion overall.  Packard competed in both of those years and was an All-American in 2018 for the event. 

Grace Hadley (North Reading, MA) also competed in the 800 meters and took 77th in a time of 2:15.73 to win her heat. Lauren Kaija (Reading, VT) took 133rd in 2:19.85 for a second-place finish in her heat and Lora Dufresne (Sutton, MA) finished second in her heat in 2:20.74. 

In the 400 meters, WPI was represented by Seneca Warren (New York, NY) who placed 174 in 1:02.27 to finish second in her heat and set a new collegiate personal best. In the 200 meters, the Engineers were represented by Janelle Knight (Goleta, CA) who took 92nd with a time of 25.92 for a season best. 

Four Engineers appeared in the 1000 meters with Callie Schadt (Brewster, MA) leading the pack in 53rd with a time of 3:02.67 for a new personal best. Nicole Whipkey (Portland, ME) took 76th in 3:08.24 while Keely Nistler (Vadnais Heights, MN) finished 83rd in 3:10.30. Mary Scrivanich (Old Tappan, NJ) rounded out the Engineers in 98th with a time of 3:16.46. 

WPI finished out the day with two representatives in the mile with Ari Rozen (Carver, MA) taking 156th in 5:14.05 to finish second in her heat and set a new personal record. Charlotte Kokernak (Niskayuna, NY) finished 191st in 5:21.26 to end the busy day for the Engineers. 

Women's Track and Field is back at Saturday, competing at both ends of Massachusetts.  The Distance Medley relay is back at BU for a morning race while other members venture to Western Mass for the Ephs Field and Track Meet at Williams.
