    Babson Park, MA --- Three WPI women's basketball student-athletes have been named to the 2007-08 NEWMAC Women's Basketball All-Academic team. The Engineers were tied for the second most in the conference with Clark while Babson had the most with four athletes. Amber Dangelo, Natasha Deschene and Rachel Salvatori were selected to the team.

    Worcester, MA --- WPI's Kaileen Selen has been selected first team All-NEWMAC after voting by the conference's women's basketball coaches today. The sophomore averaged a team-best 12.5 points while leading head coach Cherise Galasso's squad to the NEWMAC Tournament semifinals for the third time in four years.

    Worcester, MA --- Kate Maki equaled her career-high with 13 points, including four 3-pointers, to help lift fourth-seeded WPI to a 50-41 victory over fifth-seeded Babson in a NEWMAC Tournament first round contest on Wednesday. With the win, WPI (15-9) reaches the semifinals for the third straight year and will face top-seed and host Wheaton at 1pm on Saturday.

    Worcester, MA --- Serena Dubois tallied a game-high 17 points and Kaileen Selen registered a double-double to help lift WPI to a 58-44 victory over visiting MIT on Saturday afternoon. Dubois canned 8-of-11 shots from the floor and added seven boards on the day while Selen poured in 14 points and grabbed a career-best 10 rebounds.
  • Women's Basketball Rallies to Defeat Babson and Earn NEWMAC Tournament Home Game

    Babson Park, MA --- WPI's Elle Fontaine knocked down a foul-line jumper to give her team the lead with 52 seconds left to help the Engineers claim a 59-55 victory over host Babson in NEWMAC women's basketball contest on Wednesday evening. With the win, WPI (13-9, 8-4) officially secured a first-round home game in next week's conference tournament.

    Worcester, MA --- The Wheaton College women’s basketball team took over sole possession of first place with a 60-44 NEWMAC victory over WPI at Harrington Auditorium on Saturday afternoon. The Lyons, now lead Coast Guard, who dropped a 70-56 decision at Babson, by one game with two conference contests remaining.

    Worcester, MA --- The WPI basketball teams will be taking part in "Think Pink" during their home doubleheader on Saturday, February 16th. The women's team will be hosting Wheaton at 1pm while the men entertain MIT at 3pm. The Think Pink initiative is a global, unified effort for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.

With the victory, the Engineers improved to 12-8 overall and 7-3 in conference play while Smith fell to 4-15 overall and 2-8 in the NEWMAC. Kaileen Selen scored a team and game-high 15 points while Elle Fontaine and Serena Dubois tallied 14 and 11 points respectively for WPI.

    South Hadley MA --- Sophomore forward Serena Dubois notched a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds to help the WPI women's basketball team to a 63-42 victory over Mount Holyoke College this afternoon in NEWMAC action at the Mildred Howard Gymnasium. With the win, the Engineers avenged last season's league championship game loss versus Mount Holyoke.

The, orginally scheduled for Worcester, was shifted to MIT due to a flood at WPI's Harrington Auditorium.

With the win, WPI evens its record at 7-7 and 2-2 in the NEWMAC while Clark falls to 6-8 overall while also leveling its record in the league at 2-2.

  • WPI Drops Opening NEWMAC Contest to Coast Guard

    Worcester, MA - Melissa Martinelli (Vero Beach, CA) and Natalie Moyer (Oklahoma City, OK) combined for 31 points to help Coast Guard defeated host WPI 55-43 in the NEWMAC conference opener for both squads on Wednesday evening. Coast Guard (8-2, 1-0) is off to its best start in school history while WPI drops to 5-6 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

The Crimson and Gray, who have won four of five contests, even their record at 5-5 while the Mountaineers fall to 0-9.

With the victory, the Owls up their record to 5-4 while WPI falls to 3-5.

The Engineers had seen a seven-point lead evaporate to 47-44 on a lay-up by Kathy Andrade (Hull, MA) with nine seconds remaining.

  • WPI Women's Basketball Drops a 57-55 Decision to Wesleyan

    Middletown, CT --- In a game that featured eight first-half ties and no more than a five-point differential throughout the second half, Wesleyan hung on for a 57-55 victory over visiting WPI. Junior Ali Fourney (East Northport, NY) hit the key basket for Wesleyan, nailing a three-pointer with 3:10 left to break a 48-48 tie (the 12th tie of the contest), putting the Cardinals ahead for good, 51-48.
