• Women's Basketball Announces Fall Clinic Dates

    Worcester, MA --- The WPI women’s basketball program will be holding a fall basketball clinic at Harrington Auditorium Sunday October 9th 1-4pm and Sunday November 6th from 1 to 4pm. The clinics are open for girls in 6th thru 12th grade and instruction will be provided by the WPI coaching staff and players. Each session will include high level skill work, specific position work and instructional scrimmages.   • Women's Basketball Season Closes at UNE in ECAC Semifinals

    Biddeford, ME --- Junior Kelley Paradis tallied a game-high 20 points to help lead the Univeristy of New England to a 64-58 victory over WPI in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Women's Basketball Championship semifinals played Saturday evening at the Campus Center. The game marked the final contest for WPI (18-9) seniors Elle Fontaine, Charlotte McDonnell and Melissa Kuhn.

    Worcester, MA --- The WPI Women’s Basketball team has been selected to participate in the 2011 ECAC Division III New England. The fourth-seeded Engineers will host a quarterfinal matchup versus the fifth seed Suffolk on Wednesday night at 7pm in Harrington Auditorium. The Engineers enter the tournament with an 18-7 record. The Crimson and Gray closed out the regular season with a four-game winning streak before falling to Smith in the NEWMAC semifinals on Saturday.

    Worcester, MA ---Melissa Kuhn led all players with 16 points and doled out a career-best nine assists to pace fourth-seeded WPI to a 77-52 triumph over fifth-seeded Suffolk Wednesday in an ECAC New England Division III Tournament quarterfinal contest. WPI advances to Saturday’s semifinals when it travels to top-seeded University of New England at 5pm. UNE defeated Smith 64-54 in another quarterfinal matchup.
  • Fontaine and Hannmann Pick Up All-Conference NEWMAC Honors

    Babson Park, MA --- Senior Elle Fontaine (Franklin, MA) and junior Lauren Hannmann (East Greenbush, NY) have been named All-Conference women’s basketball players by the NEWMAC on Tuesday. Fontaine earns her second first-team conference honor and third overall, while Hannmann picks up her first award.

    Men's Swimming and Diving's Mason Ruffing and Women's Basketball's Elle Fontaine have been named WPI Athletes of the Week. Ruffing set two individual records and helped three relay teams to top-five finishes in the NEWMAC Championships. Fontaine narrowly missed a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds in a NEWMAC semifinal game.

With the win, the Pioneers (17-9) advance to the conference finals for just the third time in program history and the first time since 1998.

    Norton, MA --- Sophomore Theresa Logan finished with 16 points to propel the WPI Women's Basketball team to 67-58 victory over host Wheaton Saturday afternoon in its regular season finale. The win was the fourth straight for the Engineers who move to 18-6 overall and finish NEWMAC play with a 14-4 ledger. WPI is the second seed in next week's NEWMAC Tournament and after a first round bye, will take on Wednesday's Clark at Smith winner next Saturday at 3pm in the NEWMAC semifinals at Babson.

The Engineers improved to 13-3 overall and 9-1 in conference play while the Bears dropped their 11th straight to dip to 2-13 overall and 0-10 in NEWMAC play.

In additional to her 15 points, Hannmann filled the stat sheets with a team-best seven rebounds, two assists and three steals while senior Melissa Kuhn chipped in nine points and six boards.
