Worcester, MA --- WPI freshman Ama Biney (Worcester, MA) has been named the Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) Women's Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. Assumption sophomore Kelly Carey (Long Beach, N.Y.) was tabbed the organization's women's player of the week.
Biney – the Westfield State Tournament MVP – scored 11 of her 17 points in a decisive second half to lead WPI to a 72-48 win over the host Owls in the championship game Tuesday. The rookie finished 6-10 from the floor, 3-3 from three point range, and garnered two steals and an assist without a turnover in just 18 minutes of play. Later in the week, Biney netted nine points in just 11 minutes of action in WPI's 82-40 home victory over Simmons.
WPI (2-0 NEWMAC), in the midst of its best start in 30 years, puts its 9-2 record on the line with a trip to defending NEWMAC tournament champion Springfield (7-4, 3-0 NEWMAC) for a 7pm showdown between two of the three unbeaten teams in the conference.
