Westwood, MA --- WPI senior Ama Biney (Worcester, MA) has earned her seventh career NEWMAC Women's Basketball Offensive Athlete of the Week honor, as announced Monday. It is the second consecutive basketball season Biney has been recognized on five occasions.
Biney averaged 11.5 points and 7.5 rebounds to go with four steals and three assists as the Engineers secured season splits with Smith and MIT. The senior netted 15 points, including the final free throw, seven rebounds and three steals as WPI edged the Pioneers 52-50 Wednesday. Biney scored eight points and grabbed eight boards as the Engineers defeated MIT 61-54 on Saturday.
The four-time offensive selection in 2017-18 was also tabbed as the defensive honoree twice, including both for the week ending November 26. The senior collected three offensive and two defensive awards last season, as well as two weekly accolades in 2015-16.
WPI has a chance to earn another season split Wednesday at Babson in the front end of a traditional twinbill beginning at 6pm. The men follow at 8pm.
