Springfield, MA --- Three WPI wrestlers picked up sixth place finishes at the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Championships, and in the process earned All-New England honors. As a team, the Engineers collected 22 points and finished in 12th place at the two-day event, which concluded Sunday night at Springfield.
Springfield, MA --- WPI wrestlers Carl Anderson, Tyler Howe and Scott Guzman advanced to the second day of competition at the NEWA Tournament at Springfield and in the process assured themselves All-New England status. Howe reached the winner's bracket semifinals at 157 pounds with a bye and a 3-2 win over an opponent from So. Maine before falling 8-6 in overtime to the top-seeded wrestler from RIC.
Worcester, MA --- Roger Williams captured the last five bouts of the match to rally to defeat host WPI 28-12 in NEWA wrestling action on Wednesday evening. Later in the evening, WPI defeated Bryant by a score of 24-3, while Roger Williams also knocked off Bryant 25-0. The event marked Senior Night for WPI, who honored its senior wrestlers in pregame ceremonies.
Bridgewater, MA --- The WPI wrestling team withstood a late rally as the Engineers knocked off host Bridgewater State College, 29-22, in NEWA action on Saturday afternoon. WPI improves to 9-7 in dual meet action on the season, while Bridgewater falls to 2-11. WPI won four of the first five matches highlighted by pins from freshman Dan Metcalf at 125 and sophomore Tyler Howe at 157 to key the team win.
Worcester, MA --- Due to a team-wide illness, the WPI wrestling team will not be competing this weekend at the NEWA-Metro Conference Challenge. WPI will return to the mats on Saturday, February 7th, when they travel to NEWA foe Bridgewater State for a 2pm match.
New London, CT --- WPI Wrestling improved to 8-7 on the season with a 33-14 victory at Coast Guard. The Engineers received wins from Alex LaBeef, Tyler Howe, Garrett Yablonski and Scott Guzman en route to the team win. Coast Guard falls to 2-9 on the year.
Middletown, CT --- Despite match victories from the Engineers' Alex LaBeef and Tyler Howe and a pin from Scott Guzman, WPI Wrestling dropped a 40-12 decision at Wesleyan University Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Engineers to 7-7 on the season.
Bristol, RI --- The WPI Wrestling team notched a 1-2 record en route to finishing 10th at the NEWA Duals hosted by Roger Williams on Sunday afternoon. The Engineers picked up a 22-15 win over Norwich and dropped decisions to Southern Maine (42-6) and Plymouth (30-18).
184 pound senior Larry Loomis recorded three wins on the afternoon including a pin in a 22-15 win over Norwich.
Worcester, MA --- WPI Wrestling is set to travel to Bristol, RI for the 15-team NEWA Duals tournament this Sunday, hosted by Roger Williams. Johnson & Wales is the defending tournament champion and is ranked second for this year's event. WPI is ranked eighth and will compete in the tournament's first match vs. Southern Maine at 10am.
Worcester, MA --- Visiting Rhode Island College won four matches by pin, eight in total, to roll to a 37-6 victory over WPI in regional wrestling action Wednesday night at WPI's Alumni Gymnasium. Joe Vanni and Anthony Corbo each won matches for the Engineers. With the win, Rhode Island moves to 6-2 on the season, while WPI drops to 6-4.
Worcester, MA --- Freshman wrestler Rich Wingert has been selected as the New England Wrestling Association Rookie of the Week for the week ending January 11. At the WPI Super Quad meet over the weekend, Wingert won all four of his matches, two by pin, to help lead WPI to a 3-1 record at the event.

The Engineers improve to 6-3 on the year. Williams was the big winner of Saturday's event, going 4-0 on the afternoon. WPI was second at 3-1, while Trinity was 1-2, Southern Maine 1-3 and MIT 0-3 on the day.
Worcester, MA --- Due to the forecast for wintry weather conditions for Wednesday, WPI Wrestling's match at Southern Maine has been postponed. Southern Maine will now travel to Worcester this Saturday and will take on WPI as part of the already scheduled "Super Quad" meet this Saturday at Alumni Gymnasium.
Providence, RI. - The Johnson & Wales University wrestling team swept a tri-match with Oneonta State and WPI at the Harborside Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon. WPI opened the day with a 21-19 victory against Oneonta State. In the next contest, host Johnson & Wales posted an impressive 32-12 win over Oneonta. JWU wrapped up the day with a 34-9 win over WPI.
Worcester, MA --- Spurred by two pins in the last three bouts, the Springfield wrestling team went on to defeat WPI, 28-11, tonight at Springfield College's Blake Arena. WPI won the first two bouts, and three of the first five to build an 11-6 lead. Winners for the Crimson and Gray include junior Carl Anderson at 125, freshman Rich Wingert at 133, and sophomore Tyler Howe at 157 pounds.
Worcester, MA --- WPI captured six consecutive bouts, bookended by first period pins by heavyweight Anthony Corbo and 157-pound Tyler Howe to highlight a 29-12 victory over visiting Norwich in wrestling action on Saturday afternoon. Later in the day, WPI defeated Rensselaer by a score of 46-6, while Norwich also topped RPI 37-18.
Oneonta, NY --- Carl Anderson, Rich Wingert, Tyler Howe Larry Loomis and Alex LaBeef all placed to help the Engineers to an impressive fifth overall finish at the Red Dragon Invitational at Suny-Oneonta on Saturday.
Bristol, RI --- The WPI wrestling team opened its 2008-2009 season with a 10th place finish Saturday at the Roger Williams Invitational. Carl Anderson had a great day on the mat, recording a 4-1 record to place third at 125. 157-pounder Tyler Howe notched a pair of pins for the Engineers to finish with a 3-2 record which was good enough to earn him fifth place.
Worcester, MA --- WPI Wrestling head coach Lance Baden announced today the schedule of Wednesday's tri-meet with Southern Maine and Western New England. The two visitors will begin the evening at 6pm. The middle match, tentatively scheduled for 7:30pm, will feature WPI and Western New England while the nightcap (approximately 9pm) will pit the host Engineers and Southern Maine.
