  • Wrestling Begins Competition on June 15th for Best of Brand in Highlight Reel category

    Chapel Hill, NC --- For the third year in a row, WPI Wrestling is a finalist in the Best of Brand “Highlight Reel” category for programs which created non-wrestling related videos to build their team’s brand in a unique manner. The event is presented by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) in collaboration with Elite Level Sports Marketing (ELSM).
  • Amato, Tilbe, Marsh, Tanner Receive Postseason Praise from the NEWA

    Middletown, CT --- Sophomore All-American Brian Amato highlighted four WPI wrestlers named All-New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) by the conference coaches this week. In addition, eight Engineer wrestlers drew All-Academic honors from the conference.
  • Amato Finishes NCAA Wrestling Championships in Eighth Place at 125 Pounds

    Hershey, PA --- WPI sophomore Brian Amato wrapped up competition Saturday in the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships. The sophomore fell in a pair of consolation matches and took home eighth place in the 125 pound weight class in the two-day event hosted by Elizabethtown at the Giant Center.

    Last year as a freshman, WPI wrestler Brian Amato came close to qualifying for the NCAA Division 3 Championships. He needed a win against his opponent from Ithaca to snag the third and final qualifying spot in his 125-pound weight class but came up short. That match was on Amato's mind when he took on Williams' Matt Morris in the third-place match at last weekend's NCAA Northeast Regionals in Bristol, Rhode Island.
  • Amato Snags NCAA National Wrestling Slot; Marsh Finds Spot on Podium

    Bristol, RI --- WPI’s Brian Amato won a pair of matches Sunday at the NCAA III Division Northeast Wrestling Regional at Roger Williams to earn a spot at the NCAA national championships later this month. The sophomore 125-pounder was one of two all-region performers for the Engineers as teammate Justin Marsh also won twice Sunday to earn fifth place at 174 pounds.
  • Amato to the Semfinals; Tilbe, Tanner and Marsh Advance for Wrestling at NCAA Regionals

    Bristol, RI --- For the second straight year, WPI 125-pounder Brian Amato reached the semifinals of the NCAA III Division Northeast Regional Wrestling Championship. The sophomore will need to just win once on Sunday to qualify for the NCAA national championships and twice to claim the regional title. In addition, teammates Tyler Tilbe, Andy Tanner and Justin Marsh advance to the second day of competition and can reach nationals with three wins at Roger Williams on Sunday.

    Williamstown, MA --- Joe Pizzuto and Brian Amato closed out WPI’s 24-19 victory over Springfield with back-to-back pins as the Engineers closed out the dual meet season with a tri-meet Saturday at Williams.

    Worcester, MA --- Justin Marsh went 3-0 to highlight eight WPI wrestlers with multiple victories as the Engineers went 2-1 Saturday in a home quad match in the Sports & Recreation Center.
  • Amato Claims Three Victories as Wrestling Goes 2-1 at Home Super Quad

    Worcester, MA --- Brian Amato was a perfect 3-0 as WPI took two of three team bouts Saturday at a home wrestling super quad in the Sports & Recreation Center. WPI (8-11) defeated Plymouth 40-6 to open the day then knocked off Oneonta State 27-18 before falling in the finale to rival Coast Guard 29-7.
  • Wrestling Recognized for Academic Success; Amato Tabbed All-NEWA

    Worcester, MA --- WPI Wrestling has achieved the second highest team GPA of teams in the New England Wrestling Association. The Engineers' team GPA of 3.184 trailed only Williams in the 15-team conference and were recognized this past Sunday at the conference’s "Headlock for Hunger" Dual Meet Championship at Springfield.
  • Lightweights Come Up Big for Wrestling At NEWA Duals

    Springfield, MA --- Eighth-seeded WPI saw lightweights Stephen Jendritz and Brian Amato combine to win seven of their eight bouts and 165-pounder Andy Tanner add three wins at the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) "Headlock for Hunger" Dual Meet Championship hosted by Springfield on Sunday.
  • Wrestling Falls to Wesleyan and Roger Williams in Matchups with Regionally-Ranked Squads

    Bristol, RI --- The WPI wrestling team competed in two matches Saturday at a New England Wrestling Association quad meet hosted by Roger Williams. The eighth-ranked Engineers narrowly fell to No.7 Wesleyan 22-15 in the opening before falling 30-6 to top-ranked Roger Williams.
  • Late Western New England Surge Topples Wrestling

    Worcester, MA --- Heavyweight Ken Vollaro won his match with a move in the final 15 seconds to cap a Western New England rally in the last three bouts to give the visiting Golden Bears a dramatic 18-15 victory over WPI in a New England Wrestling Association match on Wednesday evening.
  • Kostopoulos and Marsh Key Wrestling at North-South Duals

    Collegeville, PA --- Teddy Kostopoulos and Justin Marsh both tallied four victories and Brian Amato registered three wins as the WPI wrestling program split four matches Saturday at the competitive North-South Duals hosted by Ursinus.
  • Late Surge Pushes Wrestling by Division II LIU-Post at Mariner Duals

    Kings Point, NY --- WPI wrestling competed three times Saturday in the Mariner Duals hosted by the United States Merchant Marine Academy. The Engineers kicked off the day by coming back to defeat Division II LIU-Post 20-19 by capturing four of the final five bouts. Later WPI dropped a pair of matches to nationally-ranked squads, falling 24-18 to No. 24 Hunter and dropping a 35-6 decision to No. 18 Johnson & Wales.
  • Amato Strikes Gold as Wrestling Places Fifth at RIT Invitational
    December 06, 2014
    Rochester, NY --- Brian Amato captured the title at 125 pounds and seven other WPI wrestlers earned spots on the podium as the Engineers finished fifth at the RIT Invitational on Saturday. The Crimson and Gray amassed 108 team points, just 30 behind event winner John Carroll.
  • Wrestling Kicks off Dual Meet Schedule with Sweep of Southern Maine and Norwich

    Worcester, MA --- The quartet of Brian Amato, Tanner Burke, Justin Marsh and Lucas Muntz all tallied a pair of wins on the day to help WPI wrestling sweep a tri-meet against Southern Maine and Norwich. The host Engineers defeated USM 33-13 in the middle matchup and the Cadets 26-12 in the nightcap. Southern Maine had opened the day with a 23-18 triumph over Norwich.
  • Wrestling Opens 2014-2015 Campaign at Roger Williams Invitational

    Bristol, RI --- Five different wrestlers notched multiple victories as the WPI wrestling team began its 2014-15 season Saturday at the Roger Williams Invitational. The Engineers totaled 23.5 points in the 12-team event, which was captured by Messiah.
