  • WPI Athletics Announces 2015-16 Award Winners

    Worcester, MA-- The WPI athletic department recently honored all of its 20 varsity teams which encompasses nearly 600 student-athletes at its annual awards banquet. During the festivities, twelve student-athletes were presented with major awards. These accolades highlight some of the best varsity student-athletes at WPI. These awards are presented to student-athletes who excel both in the classroom and in their respective sports.
  • Matt Oney '90 to Lead Kansas Wesleyan Wrestling Program

    Kansas Wesleyan University has announced the hiring of Matt Oney as the university's wrestling coach. Oney was selected from a nationwide pool of candidates to succeed Jimmy May, who resigned last month.
  • Paoletta, Marsh and Shrewsbury Headline WPI Wrestling's NEWA Award Winners

    Worcester, MA --- Eight WPI wrestlers have been selected All-New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) by the conference coaches while Tony Paoletta was named the association’s Assistant Coach of the Year. Additionally, a conference-best 17 Engineer wrestlers earned All-Academic honors from the group.
  • Amato and Day Receive National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar All-American Distinction

    Worcester, MA --- Junior Brian Amato (Newington, CT) and freshman Nick Day (Northampton, MA) have earned Division III Scholar All-American honors from the National Wrestling Coaches Association, Additionally the Engineers were recognized as a top 30 program nationwide, seeing their starters compile a 3.26 GPA, the 11th highest overall.
  • Marsh and Shrewsbury Place Fourth as Wrestling Finishes Sixth at NCAA Regionals

    Springfield, MA --- WPI wrestlers Justin Marsh and Austin Shrewsbury both notched fourth place showings at the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional as the Crimson and Gray wrapped up action Sunday in the two-day tournament hosted by Springfield.
  • Marsh Leads Wrestling's Parade of Eight to Second Day of NCAA Regionals

    Springfield, MA --- WPI’s Justin Marsh won a pair of matches Saturday to reach the semifinals of the NCAA III Division Northeast Regional Wrestling Championship hosted by Springfield. The senior captain will need to just win once on Sunday to qualify for the NCAA national championships and twice to claim the regional crown.
  • Wrestling Closes Out Dual Meet Campaign with Sweep of No. 16 Williams and Springfield
    February 13, 2016
    Springfield, MA --- WPI wrestling closed out the dual meet season by sweeping a pair of matches Saturday versus nationally-ranked Williams and host Springfield. The Engineers bested the No. 16 Ephs 18-16 before defeating the host Pride 28-13. The Crimson and Gray conclude the dual meet schedule with a 15-9 mark, their most wins since the 2003-04 campaign.
  • Wrestling Defeats Bridgewater State, Falls to Coast Guard in Road Tri-Meet
    February 06, 2016
    New London, CT --- Justin Marsh (Upper Black Eddy, PA), Brian Amato (Newington, CT), and Pat Lacroix (Salem, NH) all won twice Saturday as WPI went to New London, CT and split a tri-meet with Bridgewater State and Coast Guard. The Engineers shutout BSU 53-0 in the middle match of the tri before falling to the hosts 24-12 in the night cap.
  • Amato Victorious Three Times as Wrestling Goes 2-1 at Final Home Quad
    January 30, 2016
    WORCESTER --- Returning All-America Brian Amato delivered three victories on the day as WPI defeated Plymouth State and Southern Maine en route to a 2-1 showing in its final home quad meet of the season. The Crimson and Gray began the day by knocking off Plymouth State 48-4 and handing the Huskies a 38-13 setback before dropping a 31-6 decision to Brockport.
  • Marsh Becomes All-Time Leader in Dual Wins as Wrestling Goes 3-1 at NEWA Dual Meet Championships

    WORCESTER --- Justin Marsh became WPI’s all-time leader in dual wins and the Engineers won three out of four matches to place fifth at the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) "Headlock for Hunger" Dual Meet Championships on Saturday hosted by Bridgewater State.
  • Wrestling Defeats Trinity in Middle Home Quad of 2015-2016 Campaign
    January 16, 2016
    WORCESTER --- WPI hosted the second of two quad meets on Saturday afternoon, knocking off Trinity before succumbing to Wesleyan 18-16 and nationally-ranked Roger Williams. The third ranked Hawks went 3-0 at the event, defeated Wesleyan 27-15 and Trinity 37-11 while Wesleyan bested Trinity 40-5.
  • Shrewsbury and Muntz Tally Pins as WPI Wrestling Knocks Off Western New England
    January 13, 2016
    Springfield, MA --- Austin Shrewsbury and Lucas Muntz each recorded pins as WPI went on the road and posted a 38-3 victory in a New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) matchup on Wednesday evening. The Engineers, ranked sixth in the most recent NEWA Top 10, move their dual meet record to 6-4 on the season while the host Golden Bears slip to 3-6.
  • Marsh, Muntz, DeLuca and Amato Notch Multiple Victories for Wrestling at North-South Duals

    Collegeville, PA --- WPI wrestling ventured to Ursinus College on Saturday to take part in the North-South duals. The Engineers split a pair of close matches to open the event and finished 1-3 on day and are now 5-4 on the season.
  • DeLuca Tabbed as NEWA Rookie of the Week; Eight Engineers in New England Rankings

    Middletown, CT --- WPI freshman wrestler Graysen DeLuca has been selected as the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Rookie of the Week for the week ending Sunday, December 13th. The 157-pounder is one of eight Crimson and Gray grapplers to be regionally-ranked this week, breaking into the rankings at No. 6.
  • DeLuca Delivers in Wrestling's 2-1 Day at Northeast Duals

    Oneonta, NY --- Freshman Graysen DeLuca (Canterbury, CT) delivered three wins, including a victory over the reigning regional champion at 157, to key a 2-1 day for the nationally-ranked WPI wrestling team at the Northeast Duals Saturday. The 30th-ranked Engineers defeated RIT, 33-10, before falling to No. 20 Cortland, 28-6, and later rebounding with a 25-12 triumph over Oneonta.
  • Wrestling Cracks National Wrestling Coaching Association Top 30

    Oswego, NY --- For the first time over a decade, the WPI wrestling team finds itself ranked nationally. The Engineers are 30th in the most recent National Wrestling Coaching Association (NWCA) national poll.   • Wensley Captures Title as Wrestling Finishes Second at RIT Invitational

    Rochester, NY --- Freshman Daniel Wensley was victorious in the 184 pound weight class and Brian Amato as well as Pete Nash reached the finals in their respective classes as the WPI wrestling team placed second at the RIT Invitational on Saturday. The Engineers totaled 129.5 points and were just 16.5 points behind three-time champion John Carroll.

  • WPI Wrestling Begins 2015-2016 Season at Roger Williams Invitational

    Bristol, RI --- The WPI wrestling team kicked off its 54th season on Saturday by competing in the Roger Williams Invitational. The Engineers got podium performances by Stephen Jendritz and Michael Curtis and amassed 53.5 total points en route to placing eighth overall.
  • Three Wrestlers and Team Highly-Ranked in NEWA Preseason Polls

    WORCESTER --- The WPI wrestling team is ranked fourth in the preseason New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) poll, its high preseason ranking under sixth-head coach Steve Hall. The Engineers also have three veterans ranked in the top three of their respective weight classes.

    WORCESTER --- The WPI Athletic Department, Poly Club, and Hall of Fame Selection Committee will be inducting its 33rd class as part of Homecoming Weekend on Friday, September 25th. The class includes: Tom Bartolomei '91 (Men’s Basketball), Conor Fahey '09 (Baseball), Brian Glatz '90 (Wrestling), Swang Lee-Aphon '61 (Men’s Soccer and Tennis), Nicole Maglione '09 (Field Hockey and Softball) and Donna (Underwood) Sullivan '93 (Field Hockey and Softball). The evening begins with cocktails at 6pm with dinner beginning promptly 7pm. For last minute ticket information, please contact Pam Griffin (Griff33@wpi.edu - 508-831-5873) by Friday, September 18th.
