Oneonta, NY --- Chris Cook (Mount Kisco, NY), Chase Lind (Fairfield, CT), Tyler Marsh (Upper Back Eddy, PA), Julian Robles (Westwood, NJ) and Adam Marsh (Upper Back Eddy, PA) all logged wins for WPI as the Engineers began their 2019-20 dual meet season at a tri-meet at SUNY Oneonta.
The Crimson and Gray fell in the 34-6 to Muhlenberg (PA) in the opener before dropping a 27-15 decision to the host Red Dragons.
Cook pinned Joshua Hickey (Cedarburg, WI) at 133 pounds to earn the Engineers their only six points against Muhlenberg.
Lind got WPI on the board against SUNY Oneonta with a 6-2 victory at 157 pounds. He escaped in the last half of the second period followed by a takedown in the waning seconds to make the score 3-2 going into the final period. To add to his lead, Lind escaped his opponent nine seconds into the period and registered a final takedown before the conclusion of the bout.
Fellow captain Tyler Marsh bested his Oneonta opponent Thomas Marrone (Pleasantville, NY) at 165 pounds in a narrow 3-0 victory achieved after an escape in the second period and a penalty point in that period before riding out Marrone in the third period.
Robles earned a 3-1 decision against Chris Coyle (Medford, NY) at 174 pounds. Robles battled back in the third period to earn all four of his match points via an escape followed by a takedown in the last minute of the bout, earning himself an additional riding time point. Adam Marsh closed out the WPI scoring with a victory by injury default in the third period of his bout at 197.
The Engineers return to the mat in the WPI Sports & Recreation Center on Saturday, November 23rd against Norwich, Castleton and Stevens with wrestling set to start at 11am.
