WORCESTER -- WPI's Tyler Marsh (Upper Black Eddy, PA) has been named as the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Co-Wrestler of the Week for the week ending Sunday, January 26th. The senior 165-pounder shared the award with Paul Detwiler of Coast Guard.
It marks the fourth time that Marsh has drawn weekly recognition from the conference. He was named Rookie of the Week in November of 2016 and Wrestler of the Week in November of 2018 and November of 2020.
Marsh won all three of his matches this past Saturday at the Roger Williams quad. New England's top-ranked grappler at 165 pounds, registered a second period pin versus Johnson & Wales and then defeated the second ranked 157-pounder from Roger Williams, who had bumped up, by a 3-2 count in SV-3. He wrapped up his perfect day with a second period pin against Trinity.
On the season, Marsh is 22-4 with ten pins and three triumphs by major decision.
Additionally it was formally announced that WPI has the fifth highest team GPA in the 16-team NEWA. The projected starting lineup at this month's conference dual touts an over GPA of 3.255.
WPI returns to action on Saturday, hosting Southern Maine and Brockport (NY) in a super quad also featuring Roger Williams and Muhlenberg (PA). Action begins at 11am.
