Marsh, Lind, Cook Earn NWCA Scholar All-American Award; Wrestling Touts Top 15 Team GPA

Manheim, PA --- Seniors Tyler Marsh (Upper Black Eddy, PA) and Chase Lind (Fairfield, CT) and freshman Chris Cook (Mount Kisco, NY) have been named Division III Scholar All-Americans by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA).  The award marks the fourth for Marsh, earning it all four years and third consecutive honor for Lind. 

As a program, the Crimson and Gray were recognized as a top 30 team nationwide for the fifth straight year.  WPI's starters and four key reserves compiled a 3.516 GPA, the 15th highest in Division III. 

Marsh posted a 29-5 record this season after a third place performance at the Northeast Regional on February 29th and March 1st.  He was slated to compete in his third consecutive NCAA Championships until the event was cancelled last week due to the coronavirus.  Marsh, a mechanical engineering major, sports a 3.92 GPA

The 165-pounder ended his career with a 108-30 mark and has his name all over the WPI dual meet record books.  Marsh is tied for first in wins in a season (20) and third in career victories (61).  He is also tied for first in season pins (11) and fifth in career pins (25) while he is third in team points in a season (95) and fourth in career points (278).  

Lind finished one win short of qualifying for nationals at 165 pounds.  The senior completed his final campaign with a 26-11 record with six pins and placed fourth at regionals.  Lind boasts a 3.55 GPA while majoring in mechanical engineering. 

Cook burst onto the collegiate wrestling scene with a 25-15 record, which included 13 victories by fall.  The rookie 133-pounder placed sixth at the NCAA Northeast regional.  Cook touts a 3.52 GPA as a robotics engineering major. 

Nominees must have at least a 3.2 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) for the previous full academic year. Transfers and freshmen are eligible if they've been in residence at their current institution beginning in the fall of 2019. On the competition side, wrestlers must be a national qualifier in 2019-20 and have a minimum win percentage of at least .500. 

Additionally, wrestlers can also be considered if they placed in the top six at their respective regional tournament, a win percentage of .500 or better and competed in half of the institution's scheduled competition in NCAA championship events. A wrestler can also be considered if they have a win percentage of .670 or better and competed in half of the institution's scheduled NCAA events.
