Worcester, MA --- WPI women's rowing closed out its 2014 spring campaign Sunday in the ECAC National Invitational on Lake Quinsigamond. The regatta is perhaps the strongest in Division III with all 10 of the CRCA/USRowing Coaches Poll top 10 varsity eights in the water on Sunday.
The varsity eight made up of Liz Audet (Terryville, CT), Elisabeth Boulanger (Grafton, MA), Maggie Freed (Staunton, VA), Brooke Cotta (Bristol, RI), Julie Waddell (Phoenix, AZ), Emily Hofmeister (Mission Hills, KS), Corre Steele (Stow, MA), Anisa Swei (Brookline, MA) and coxswain Jess Prashaw (East Greenbush, NY) finished fourth in its morning heat (7:04.936) before coming back in the afternoon to cross the finish line fifth (7:23.231) during the petite final.
The second varsity eight of Rebecca Barolli (Middlebury, CT), Kelsey Stergiou (Manchester, NH), Arianna Niro (Milford, MA), Kayla McAvoy (Old Saybrook, CT), Kristin Olson (San Diego, CA), Rachael Matty (Pomfret Center, CT) Victoria Loehle (Morganville, NJ), Sandra Garcia-Fine (Cobleskill, NY) and coxswain Dominique Throop (Fairfax Station, VA) drew a particularly fast heat and posted a time of 7:20.863. The crew captured the third level final with a nearly identical time of 7:20.606.
The third varsity eight comprised of Sarah Smith (San Jose, CA), Jennifer Golden (Norton, MA), Zulean Cruz-Diaz (Pharr, TX), Audrey Allen (Topsfield, MA), Alexa Hiznay (Trumbull, CT), Christina Bottom (Auburn, MA), Julia Pershken (Albion, ME), Sarah Bucknam (Johnston, RI) and coxswain Nicole Quintal (Colchester, VT) reached the grand final and trimmed over six seconds from its morning time of 7:45.365 with an afternoon sixth-place showing of 7:39.192.
The ECAC Invitational marks the conclusion of the 2013-2014 season for WPI. In late June WPI will be competing in the Henley Women's Regatta before beginning the 2014-2015 fall season in late September.
