WORCESTER --- The Bernard Brown Cup will remain in Worcester for the first time since 2013 as WPI Women's Rowing defeated Tufts Sunday morning on Lake Quinsigamond. The second and fourth varsity eights also bested the Jumbos in a regatta that also featured Clark, Skidmore and William Smith.

The Engineers, ranked ninth in the CRCA/USRowing Coaches Top 15, crossed the finish line in 6:44.30 while 11th-ranked Tufts followed with a 6:46.01. No. 12 William Smith also rowed a sub-seven minute 2K to take third. Clark and Skidmore rounded out the varsity eight field. Thanks to the efforts of the second varsity eight, who edged the Jumbos by .14 seconds (7:04.1 – 7:04.24), the Crimson and Gray appear to be in a good position ahead of the initial NCAA Regional Rankings. The Herons and Cougars also raced in the 2V.

Tufts claimed the third varsity eight (7:14.7 – 7:18.83) and WPI secured the fourth varsity eight (7:41.40 – 8:02.39) in head-to-head races.

The Engineers begin the championship season next Saturday, hosting the NEWMAC Championships on Lake Quinsigamond with No. 5 Wellesley, No. 14 Smith, Clark, Coast Guard, Mount Holyoke and Simmons.  Racing begins at 8:30am.
