Cambridge, MA --- WPI women's rowing's varsity eight earned its first-ever medal with a third-place finish Sunday at the historic Head of The Charles Regatta.

The varsity eight (18:42.328) only trailed defending national champion Bates (18:18.054) and Williams (18:38.890). The Engineers also bested Ithaca, Smith, Wesleyan and Tufts who were fourth through seventh. NEWMAC foe Wellesley took 10th and Coast Guard was 12th. Mercyhurst interrupted the Division III parade with an eighth-place showing.

The second varsity eight, who ran into trouble when an oar tangled with a buoy, posted a time of 20:51.810, which was better than entries from Manhattan, Binghamton, Assumption, Texas and High Point.
