WORCESTER – WPI senior back Karina Larson (Storrs, CT) scored with 2:56 remaining to lift the host Engineers past Wentworth Institute of Technology, 1-0, Wednesday night in Alumni Stadium.

The Crimson and Gray halt their three-game skid and improve to 5-3 while the Leopards slip to 3-4.

Larson, who has scored a goal per season, knocked home her own rebound following a corner kick. As a team, WPI had 26 shots with 14 on-goal. Sophomore Kristen McCrea (Weymouth, MA) led the parade with six overall and three at the keeper as Larson was efficient with both of her bids aimed at the net. Nine other Engineers also logged one shot each. Junior Gabriela Hoops (Stonington, CT) made five saves in the clean sheet.

Wentworth, who had all five of its shots go on-goal, was led by senior Ali Leach (Stowe, VT) with a pair. Junior Christie Fleming (Braintree, MA) halted 13 shots, including a number of diving stops. One of the more spectacular saves was in the 80th minute to deny sophomore Jill Comeau (North Reading, MA).

In addition to a wide margin in shots, WPI held the 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Engineers host Coast Guard Saturday in a NEWMAC affair at 1pm and the Leopards host Gordon for a CCC matchup at noon.
