WORCESTER – Springfield senior Amanda Wright (Pittsfield, MA) notched the lone goal in a 1-0 triumph over host WPI in the NEWMAC women's soccer regular season finale for both teams Sunday in Alumni Stadium.
The Pride (12-4-1, 8-2 NEWMAC), who are 11th in the latest NCAA Division III Regional Rankings, secures the second seed and will host seventh-seeded Wheaton in the upcoming conference tournament while the fifth-seeded Engineers (11-5-2, 5-3-2) will head to fourth-seeded Coast Guard. Both quarterfinal matches are set for Tuesday at a time to be announced.
Wright took advantage of a clean look for her eighth goal of the season at 55:46. Classmate Jackie Davis (Ringoes, NJ), meanwhile, turned away five shots for the guests.
Sophomore Sofia Orrico (Bethel, CT) and junior Kristen McCrea (Weymouth, MA) each accounted for three shots to go with a pair from freshman Elizabeth Rocco (Fresh Meadows, NY). Seven of WPI's chances came in the second half and, combined with near-misses, featured a handful of great opportunities that went awry.

Senior Gabriela Hoops (Stonington, CT), who tallied six saves in the effort, was honored before the game along with Juliana Cabello (Smithtown, NY) and Sierra 'Knox' Palmer (Knoxville, TN) for their contributions to WPI Athletics and the women's soccer program.
