Westwood, MA --- WPI senior Gabriela Hoops (Stonington, CT) and junior Kristen McCrea (Weymouth, MA) have earned NEWMAC Women's Soccer All-Conference accolades for the third consecutive year. The duo was named to the first team while sophomore Leah Beauton (Colchester, CT) landed on the second team. Senior manager Sierra 'Knox' Palmer (Knoxville, TN) was lauded as the program's NEWMAC All-Sportsmanship team selection.
McCrea, the 2016 NEWMAC Rookie of the Year, collected her third first team nod in as many seasons. The co-captain was the team's leader with 25 points and was tied with Beauton with a team-best 10 goals on the year, of which three were game-winners against Salem State, Framingham State and Mount Holyoke. McCrea also turned in a hat-trick versus city rival Worcester State.
Hoops, the inaugural NEWMAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2016, moves up to the first team after spending the last two on the second following a 10-6-2 campaign. The co-captain completed the regular season ranked second in save percentage in 940 minutes played in NEWMAC matches that featured a career-high 19 stops in a 2-2 tie versus MIT. Four of Hoops' six shutouts were in conference play, including a double OT draw at Wellesley.
Beauton saw three of her team-high 10 goals serve as game-winners against Worcester State, Roger Williams and Emerson, and three in the form of a hat-trick at Roger Williams. The sophomore was also second on the team with 23 points despite missing the last three regular season games due to injury.
