WORCESTER – WPI goalkeeper Gabriela Hoops (Stonington, CT) has been selected to play in the New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) Senior Bowl, which is slated for a noon start on Saturday, December 1st at Merrimack College.
Hoops, the inaugural NEWMAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2016, moved up to the All-NEWMAC first team after spending the last two on the second following a 10-6-2 campaign. The co-captain completed the regular season ranked second in save percentage in 940 minutes played in NEWMAC matches that featured a career-high 19 stops in a 2-2 tie versus MIT. Four of Hoops' six shutouts were in conference play, including a double OT draw at Wellesley.
For her career, Hoops posted a 35-14-9 record with 24 shutouts and shared seven more while boasting a 0.63 goals against average in 60 starts and 64 games played. Hoops also made 238 saves in nearly 5518 minutes of action. The senior also went 19-9-6, which included an 8-1-1 record in 2016, in NEWMAC regular season contests. The Engineers won, and hosted, their first-ever conference tournament game that saw Hoops register a 1-0 shutout of Springfield en route to their first-ever NEWMAC tournament title with a 3-1 win over MIT. A week later in the NCAA tournament, Hoops made eight saves in a scoreless draw with Trinity at William Smith.
Hoops joins former teammates Sophie Gomarlo and Emily Doherty as the third WPI selection in four years.
