Westwood, MA --- WPI seniors Kristen McCrea (Weymouth, MA) and Mandy St. Germain (Upton, MA) swept the NEWMAC Women's Soccer Weekly Awards, as announced Monday. McCrea was named as the offensive athlete of the week while St. Germain was tabbed as the defensive athlete of the week.
McCrea began a nine-point week with a goal at Worcester State before netting a pair at Framingham State, including the game-winner, and adding a goal and an assist versus Trinity. In addition to reaching 80 career points, McCrea moved into a tie for third all-time with 22 assists and fourth all-time with 29 goals.
St. Germain posted a .84 GAA and .833 save percentage in a 3-0 week, including a solo shutout at Worcester State. The senior made three saves against Framingham State before stopping five against Trinity. The win on Sunday was the first over the Bantams since the series began in what ended as a scoreless draw in the first round of the 2016 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship at William Smith.
It is the Engineers first defensive accolade since Gabi Hoops was recognized on October 11, 2016 while McCrea was last feted almost exactly a year ago.
Women's Soccer (4-0) travels to Tufts Thursday for a 4:30pm non-conference matchup.
