Worcester, MA --- The WPI athletic department announced today the resignation of volleyball head coach Alex Temkin. Temkin departs following a successful two-year stint with the Engineers after accepting a full-time senior information technology position with Saga Communications based in Gross Point Farms, MI. Temkin posted a 44-17 record over the last two seasons, including back-to-back 20 plus win seasons for just the second time in program history. A search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
Babson Park, MA --- WPI sophomores Jocelyn Close, Lauren D’Angelo and Alison Su each earned their first NEWMAC Volleyball Academic All-Conference distinction as the league announced the honorees on Wednesday. The trio helped the Engineers garner the fourth-most selections in the 10-team conference.
Cambridge, MA --- Sharon Hao compiled 11 assists, five digs, four aces, and three kills as MIT defeated the visiting WPI in a NEWMAC volleyball quarterfinal match on Tuesday night. With the 25-15, 25-8, 25-23 victory, MIT clinched a spot in the semifinal round and improved to 21-13 on the year and will face host and top seed Springfield on Saturday at 1pm. WPI closed its season with a record of 22-9.
Northampton, MA --- Kim Woodward and Elyssa Dorenfeld each notched a double-double as WPI defeated Smith in five sets on Saturday afternoon in NEWMAC volleyball action. With the win, WPI finishes the regular season 22-8 and 5-4 in the conference, while Smith finishes its season 3-21 and 1-8 in the NEWMAC. WPI begins the NEWMAC tournament with a trip to MIT for a quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday at 7pm.
Worcester, MA --- Trinity Leonard smashed nine kills and added a pair of blocks to pace visiting MIT to a 3-0 victory over WPI in a NEWMAC volleyball matchup on Tuesday evening. MIT took the contest by scores of 25-12, 25-17, 25-21. MIT sees its record move to 19-12 on the year and 6-2 in conference action. WPI dips to 21-8 overall and 4-4 in NEWMAC play.
South Hadley, MA --- WPI sophomore Elyssa Dorenfeld notched 24 kills and 18 digs on Saturday en route to being named to the Hall of Fame All-Tournament team as the Engineers went 1-1 on the day in women’s volleyball. As a result the Crimson and Gray move to 21-7 on the season.
South Hadley, MA --- Elyssa Dorenfeld led WPI with team-highs of eight kills and nine digs as the Engineers downed Gordon 3-0 Friday in the opening round at the prestigious Hall of Fame Tournament held on the campus of Mount Holyoke. The victory improves WPI to 20-6 and marks just the second time in school history - and the first time in 22 years - the program has posted back-to-back 20-win seasons.
Worcester, MA --- Springfield senior Sarah Lang-Rodean notched a match-best nine kills to lead the Pride past host WPI 3-0 in a key NEWMAC volleyball contest Tuesday night at Harrington Auditorium. Springfield won by scores of 25-16, 25-11, 25-6. Despite the loss, the Engineers secured a berth in the upcoming six-team NEWMAC Tournament based on other results Tuesday around the conference.
Springfield, MA --- Elyssa Dorenfeld amassed 32 kills and 18 digs in two matches, including a double-double as WPI split a pair of non-conference volleyball contests Saturday at Western New England. As a result, WPI moves to 19-5 on the season. WPI and Western New England went five thrilling sets, with the Engineers coming out the victors, 3-2.
South Hadley, MA --- Led by outside hitter Elyssa Dorenfeld the WPI womens volleyball team held on for a thrilling 3-2 triumph over Mount Holyoke College this evening at the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. The sophomore posted a double-double on 12 kills and 21 digs, as the Engineers claimed their third straight win over their NEWMAC counterparts.
Worcester, MA --- Belinda Nwagbara notched 16 kills and six digs as WPI Volleyball won both matches Saturday over visiting Eastern Nazarene and Anna Maria in a non-conference tri-match. The middle contest saw Anna Maria defeat Eastern Nazarene 3-1 to avenge a 3-0 loss last week. With the days results, WPI improves to 17-4 on the season, while Anna Maria moves to 6-13 and Eastern Nazarene drops to 3-18.
Bristol, RI --- The WPI Volleyball team ran into its second regionally ranked opponent in three days on Thursday evening, falling to host Roger Williams 3-1 in a non-conference tilt. Sophomore Bailey Sarber led the way for Engineers with nine kills and just one error on 40 swings as the Engineers slipped to 15-4 on the season. RWU, ranked ninth in the latest NEWVA poll, is now 18-3.
Worcester, MA --- Coast Guard freshman Kelsey DePorto notched seven kills and three blocks as the Bears downed host WPI in straight sets Tuesday night in a NEWMAC conference match (25-13, 25-17, 25-20). Coast Guard improves to 16-4 and 4-1 in conference action, while WPI drops to 15-3 and 3-2 in NEWMAC play.
Worcester, MA --- WPI junior Joan Porambo registered her 1,000th career dig as the host Engineers defeated Mass Maritime and Pine Manor in straight sets in non-consecutive on Saturday. The middle match saw Pine Manor down Mass Maritime in three sets. With the results, WPI improves to 15-2, while Pine Manor moves to 5-6 and Mass Maritime dips to 1-15.
Norton, MA --- Sophomore Elyssa Dorenfeld contributed 14 digs as WPI defeated Wheaton in NEWMAC women's volleyball action on Tuesday night. The visiting Engineers came out on top by a 3-0 (26-24, 25-22, 25-22) count at Wheaton's Emerson Gymnasium. With WPI earning its second straight win over Wheaton, the Engineers move to 13-2 and 3-1, while the Lyons slip to 8-9 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

Wellesley is perfect in its young NEWMAC season at 2-0 and 3-2 overall while the Engineers see their NEWMAC record even at 1-1 and move to 10-2 on the year.

The 25-23, 25-22, 27-25 win for WPI avenges a three-set loss to the Cougars in Sunday’s championship match of the Worcester City Tournament at Assumption.

The Engineers, who are now 9-1, downed Worcester State 3-0 in the opener before falling to Clark 3-0 in the championship tilt.
Worcester, MA --- The WPI volleyball team posted a stout .324 hitting percentage en route to registering a 3-0 victory Thursday over visiting Lesley in a non-conference volleyball contest. The Engineers, who won by scores of 25-17, 25-13, 25-19, remain undefeated on the season at 8-0, while the Lynx tumble to 1-2. As a team, the Engineers committed just three hitting errors in 71 attempts.
Babson Park, MA --- WPI junior libero Joan Porambo has been selected the initial NEWMAC Volleyball Player of the Week for the 2010 season. She is the first WPI player to be honored with a conference weekly award since September 7, 2009 when Becca Holmberg was recognized. Porambo set the defensive tone in helping WPI capture its second consecutive Regis Pride Invitational.
Worcester, MA --- Tournament MVP Joan Porambo totaled 58 digs in as the WPI volleyball won three matches on Sunday to capture the Pride Invitational hosted this weekend by Regis College. WPI knocked over Worcester State and Rhode Island College by 3-0 counts, before defeating Framingham State 3-1 in the final match of the tournament.
Weston, MA --- The WPI volleyball team began defense of it Pride Invitational championship by going 3-0 on Saturday during the opening day of the two-day tournament. The Engineers defeated host Regis, Suffolk and Assumption by identical 3-0 scores to lift their overall record to 4-0 on the season. WPI wrapped up the day by eking out a tight 25-23, 25-22, 25-23 decision over city rival and Division II Assumption.
