Worcester, MA --- Tournament MVP Joan Porambo (Jim Thorpe, PA) totaled 58 digs in as the WPI volleyball won three matches on Sunday to capture the Pride Invitational hosted this weekend by Regis College. WPI knocked over Worcester State and Rhode Island College by 3-0 counts, before defeating Framingham State 3-1 in the final match of the tournament.
Joining Porambo on the All-Tournament team was classmate Kim Woodward (Clifton Park, NY). The junior doled out 91 assists over the six matches at the tournament, helping the Engineers win the seven-team tournament for the second consecutive year.
Bailey Sarber (Westerly, RI) and Woodward stole the show in the second match versus Rhode Island College (25-22, 25-11, 25-15). Sarber tallied 12 kills and Woodward handed out nine helpers at chipped in with five digs. After a tight first set, the Crimson and Gray came out firing in the second, scoring 20 of the first 23 points to put the match out of hand.
Porambo earned membership in the 30-dig club in the four-set nightcap win over Framingham State (25-16, 25-22, 23-25, 25-20). The junior amassed 34 digs brining her six-match total to an impressive 104. Sarber continued her fine hitting, smashing 14 kills while making just one error in 45 attempts and Elyssa Dorenfeld (Reading, MA) added nine kills. Woodward and Alex Rangel (Weston, FL) combined for 32 assists in the match.
The Engineers, who are now 7-0 on the season, are off until Thursday, when they return to Harrington Auditorium to host Lesley at 7pm.
