Porambo Takes Home NEWMAC Player of the Week Accolades

Babson Park, MA ---  WPI junior libero Joan Porambo (Jim Thorpe, PA) has been selected the initial NEWMAC Volleyball Player of the Week for the 2010 season.  She is the first WPI player to be honored with a conference weekly award since September 7, 2009 when Becca Holmberg was recognized.

Porambo set the defensive tone in helping WPI capture its second consecutive Regis Pride Invitational. The libero amassed 104 digs en route to earning Most Valuable Player accolades during the two-day, six-match event. Porambo joined the 30-dig club with 34 in WPI's 3-1 victory against Framingham State. Earlier in the tournament she was credited with 20 digs against Division II Assumption and 18 versus Suffolk.

WPI, who has started the season 7-0 for the second straight year, returns to the court on Thursday when they host Lesley at 7pm.
