Worcester, MA --- The WPI volleyball team posted a stout .324 hitting percentage en route to registering a 3-0 victory Thursday over visiting Lesley in a non-conference volleyball contest. The Engineers, who won by scores of 25-17, 25-13, 25-19, remain undefeated on the season at 8-0, while the Lynx tumble to 1-2.
As a team, the Engineers committed just three hitting errors in 71 attempts. Bailey Sarber (Westerly, RI) led the hit parade with a team-best seven kills while Kim Woodward (Clifton Park, NY), Elyssa Dorenfeld (Reading, MA), Alyssa Fidanza (Ellington, CT) and Holly Ganser (Seward, AK) all notched multiple kills without making an error.
Woodward had a strong all-around game, tallying five kills in nine attempts (.556), handing out 10 assists and collecting six digs. Alex Rangel (Weston, FL) added a team-best 12 assists.
Joan Porambo (Jim Thorpe, PA) and Kerrin Beovich (Seaford, NY) anchored the defensive effort for the Crimson and Gray. Porambo scooped up 10 digs while Beovich amassed a solo block and two block assists. Lauren D'Angelo (Wallingford, CT) and Fidanza aided the WPI effort with six digs apiece.
Libero Caitlin Vandenburgh (Swansea, MA) paced Lesley with 11 digs while hitter Amanda McCracken (Marriottiville, MD) recorded nine kills.
WPI is off until Sunday, when they attempt to defend its Worcester City Tournament championship. The Engineers will take on Worcester State at Assumption at 11am and play either Clark or the host Greyhounds at 1pm or 3pm. Lesley ventures to Regis on Saturday for an 11am tri-match with Norwich.
