Worcester, MA --- Coast Guard freshman Kelsey
DePorto (Frankfort, IL) notched seven kills and three
blocks as the Bears downed host WPI in straight sets Tuesday night
in a NEWMAC conference match (25-13, 25-17, 25-20). Coast Guard
improves to 16-4 and 4-1 in conference action, while WPI drops to
15-3 and 3-2 in NEWMAC play.
Coast Guard sophomore Karen Matic (Oswego, IL) doled out 25 assists while junior Nicole Johnson (New Braunfels, TX) registered 11 kills. Senior Jessica Anderson (Kalamazoo, MI) anchored the defensive effort by amassing 15 digs, while freshman Lexie Ludewig (Goveland, IL) and sophomore Catherine Walker (Dearborn Heights, MI) each posted 10 and Lauren Bloch (Centennial, CO) joined DePorto with three blocks.
Sophomore Elyssa Dorenfeld (Reading, MA) led WPI with six kills, while junior Kim Woodward (Clifton Park, NY) pitched in with 12 assists. Classmate Joan Porambo (Jim Thorpe, PA) dug out 17 balls as second year player Bailey Sarber (Westerly, RI) and rookie Holly Ganser (Seward, AK) each made a solo block and assisted on two.
WPI hits the road on Thursday for a key non-conference matchup with Roger Williams at 7pm. Coast Guard is right back in action on Wednesday, traveling to Wesleyan for a 7pm contest.
