South Hadley, MA --- WPI sophomore Elyssa Dorenfeld (Reading, MA) notched 24 kills and 18 digs on Saturday en route to being named to the Hall of Fame All-Tournament team as the Engineers went 1-1 on the day in women's volleyball. As a result the Crimson and Gray move to 21-7 on the season.
The first match of the day saw WPI lose to Union in five sets (25-22, 17-25, 25-15, 25-27, and 13-15). Dorenfeld was a just short of a double-double as she recorded 16 kills and nine digs against the Dutchwomen.
Kerrin Beovich (Seaford, NY) added seven kills for the Engineers, while Joan Porambo (Jim Thorpe, PA) registered 17 digs. Lauren D'Angelo (Wallingford, CT) and Kim Woodward (Clifton Park, NY) added nine digs each, as Woodward would also amass 43 assists.
In the matchup with Westfield, the Engineers won in straight sets (25-23, 25-11, 25-21). Bailey Sarber (Westerly, RI) notched 11 kills on 25 attempts. Dorenfeld would post 10 kills and six digs, while Porambo and Alyssa Fidanza (Ellington, CT) combined for 21 digs. Woodward chipped in with 34 assists.
WPI returns to Harrington Auditorium on Tuesday when they host MIT for a 7pm NEWMAC contest.
