  • WPI Athletics Announces 2015-16 Award Winners

    Worcester, MA-- The WPI athletic department recently honored all of its 20 varsity teams which encompasses nearly 600 student-athletes at its annual awards banquet. During the festivities, twelve student-athletes were presented with major awards. These accolades highlight some of the best varsity student-athletes at WPI. These awards are presented to student-athletes who excel both in the classroom and in their respective sports.

  • Hunt Named NEWMAC Volleyball All-Conference; Team Claims Sportsmanship Award

    BOSTON – WPI freshman Casey Hunt earned NEWMAC Women’s Volleyball All-Conference second team honors while the team claimed the sportsmanship award for the second time in three years. Hunt becomes the fifth different Engineer to be recognized by the NEWMAC or NEW 8 and is the first selection since 2010 WPI Hall of Fame inductee Rachel Zimet (Pytel) ’02 secured her second nod in 2000.
  • 49 Fall Student-Athletes Earn NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Honors

    BOSTON -- Bolstered by a league-leading 21 cross country selections, 49 WPI student-athletes achieved NEWMAC Academic All-Conference status for the fall season. Men’s Cross Country boasted an Engineer-best 13 honorees followed by Women’s Soccer with 10 and Field Hockey and Women’s Cross Country with eight each. Men’s Soccer totaled six student-athletes and Volleyball added four.
  • Volleyball Falls to Springfield in NEWMAC Tournament Quarterfinals

    Springfield, MA --- The seventh-seeded WPI volleyball team went on the road and fell 3-1 to No. 2 Springfield in a NEWMAC Tournament quarterfinal contest played Tuesday night. The host Pride took the match by scores of 25-14, 22-25, 25-19, 25-15 between regionally-ranked squads.
  • Daigle Leads Volleyball Past Mount Holyoke, 3-0, in Regular Season Finale

    WORCESTER -- Sophomore Melissa Daigle (Norfolk, MA) collected a match-best 14 kills on 30 attempts for a .367 hitting percentage as WPI defeated visiting Mount Holyoke, 3-0 (25-11, 25-13, 25-15), on Saturday afternoon in Harrington Auditorium.
  • Volleyball Succumbs to City Foe Clark in Five-Set Nailbiter

    WORCESTER -- In a match that definitely had a playoff feel, Clark rallied for a thrilling 3-2 win over crosstown rival WPI in NEWMAC volleyball action on Tuesday evening at the Kneller Athletic Center. Game scores were 22-25, 27-25, 23-25, 25-16, 15-11.
  • Volleyball Topples Anna Maria and Host Simmons by Identical 3-0 Scores

    Boston, MA --- Sophomore outside hitter Melissa Daigle averaged 3.33 kills per set and junior libero Cassandra Tomerlin fired 10 aces and averaged five digs to lead the WPI women’s volleyball team to a sweep of a tri-match with host Simmons e and Anna Maria this afternoon at Moore Gymnasium. The Engineers defeated Anna Maria, 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-18), and Simmons, 3-0 (25-19, 27-25, 25-16). Anna Maria downed Simmons in the first match of the day, 3-1 (25-23, 22-25, 25-23, 25-23).
  • Klepper, Hurlock and Daigle Lead Regionally-Ranked Volleyball Past Pine Manor

    WORCESTER – Sophomores Kat Hurlock, Melissa Daigle and Brooke Klepper all hit .400 or better to lead host WPI, who hit .318 as a team, to a 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-6) win over Pine Manor Thursday night at Harrington Auditorium.
  • Hot Hitting Springfield Sinks Volleyball in Straight Sets

    Springfield, MA --- Led by the duo of Kayleigh Helgesen (Oceanside, CA) and Lauren Holt (Granby, CT), the Springfield College women's volleyball team bested visiting WPI in straight sets on Tuesday evening in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action in Blake Arena. Springfield won by the set scores of 25-14, 25-17, 25-19.
  • WPI Takes Out Eastern Nazarene in Straight Sets
    October 17, 2015
    Quincy, MA --- A balanced attack helped WPI spoil Homecoming for Eastern Nazarene in a non-conference volleyball match played Saturday morning. The Engineers cruised to a 3-0 victory with sets of 25-6, 25-9, 25-14 for their sixth straight victory to improve to 16-5 on the season. The Crimson and Gray scored the opening three points and never trailed at all in the match. The guests hit .305 on the day, second best in 21 matches this season, including a jaw-dropping .455 in the second set, smashing 13 kills and making just three errors in 22 tries in the middle frame.
  • Daigle Named NEWMAC Women's Volleyball Player of the Week

    BOSTON -- WPI sophomore Melissa Daigle (Norfolk, MA) has been chosen as the NEWMAC Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week. She becomes the first Engineer honoree since Joan Porambo in 2010.
  • Feeley Reaches Assist Milestone in Volleyball Sweep at Salve Regina

    Newport, RI --- WPI junior Shay Feeley totaled 27 assists - including the 1,000th of her career - as WPI went on the road and swept a non-conference volleyball tri-match at Salve Regina on Saturday afternoon. The Engineers swept rival Worcester State (25-18, 25-15, 25-19) to start their day before claiming a 3-1 (25-17, 26-28, 25-21, 25-14) decision over the host Seahawks in the nightcap.
  • Daigle and Hurlock Spark Volleyball to 3-1 Victory Over Smith

    WORCESTER – Sophomore Melissa Daigle continued her solid week by recording a match-best 17 kills as WPI defeated visiting Smith, 3-1 (25-15, 26-28, 25-15, 25-15) in a NEWMAC women’s volleyball match Thursday night in Harrington Auditorium. The Engineers (13-5, 4-3), who are on a three-match winning-streak for the third time in 2015, now boast the most wins, overall and in league action, since the 2012 campaign.
  • Volleyball Dispatches Defending NEWMAC Tournament Champion Babson in Five Sets

    Babson Park, MA --- WPI won the final two sets to rally for a 3-2 (17-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-19, 15-13) victory over Babson in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women’s volleyball action on Tuesday night at Staake Gymnasium. With the win, WPI is now 12-5 overall and 3-3 in conference play, while Babson, which is ninth in the NEWVA poll, drops to 13-5 overall and 4-3 in the NEWMAC.
  • Daigle Smashes 20 Kills as Volleyball Splits a Pair of Matches at Plymouth State

    Plymouth, NH --- Melissa Daigle totaled 20 kills as WPI split a pair of non-conference volleyball matches at Plymouth State on Saturday. The Engineers fell to the host Panthers 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-13) before rebounding to sweep Salem State (25-12, 25-20, 25-23).
  • Hunt, Volleyball Ice Previously Undefeated Saint Joseph’s (ME) in Five Set Thriller

    WORCESTER – Freshman Casey Hunt recorded a pair of kills and a service ace late in the fifth set to push WPI past previously undefeated Saint Joseph’s (ME), 3-2 (16-25, 25-23, 21-25, 25-16, 15-13), in a non-conference women’s volleyball matchup Friday night in Harrington Auditorium. The Engineers (10-4), the only unranked team receiving votes on more than one ballot in each of the first three NEWVA Division III regional polls, achieved double-digit wins for the second time in as many seasons. The Monks, who came into the match tied for 15th in the same poll, slip to 15-1 on the season.
  • Volleyball Back on the Winning Track After Halting Newbury's Streak

    WORCESTER -- Melissa Daigle and Casey Hunt shared team-best honors with nine kills each as host WPI snapped Newbury’s six-game winning streak with a 3-0 victory on Tuesday evening. The Engineers swept the match by scores of 25-20, 25-17, 25-15.
  • Tuesday's Non-Conference Volleyball Match with Newbury Shifted to WPI

    WORCESTER --- Tuesday’s volleyball match between WPI and Newbury has been moved to Worcester. The contest will be played in WPI's Harrington Auditorium at 7pm. Live stats and video will be available for the match. The Engineers enter the non-conference match with a 8-4 record while Newbury, winners of six straight, is 7-6 on the season.
  • Hunt, Bircsak and Klepper Shine as Volleyball Drops 3-1 Decision at Wellesley

    Wellesley, MA --- Wellesley College volleyball celebrated Homecoming Weekend with an exciting 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-8, 25-23) victory over WPI on Saturday afternoon at Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse. The win lifts the Blue to 6-7 on the season and 3-1 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). The Engineers drop to 8-4 and 2-3 in conference play.

    WORCESTER -- Sophomore Summer Adams (Gig Harbor, WA) hit .231 on 26 attempts with only one miscue and senior Maggie Hine (Richmond, VA) registered a double-double with a match-high 27 assists to go with 18 digs as Coast Guard edged host WPI, 3-0 (25-22, 26-24, 25-21), Thursday night in a NEWMAC women’s volleyball matchup at Harrington Auditorium.
  • Volleyball Moves to 8-2 with Key Road NEWMAC Victory at Emerson

    Boston, MA --- The Emerson College women’s volleyball team fell to WPI, 3-1, in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action, Tuesday evening. First year outside hitter Casey Hunt led the way for the Engineers notching 13 kills.
  • Volleyball Rallies for Thrilling Sweep of Wheaton and Gordon

    WORCESTER – Freshman Casey Hunt logged a pair of double-doubles and WPI overcame a deficit late in the day to sweep a tri-match with Wheaton, 3-2 (23-25, 25-22, 13-25, 25-20, 16-14), and Gordon, 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-23) on Saturday in Harrington Auditorium. Gordon defeated Wheaton in the neutral match 3-2 (19-25, 25-20, 19-25, 25-19, 15-12).
  • Hunt, Daigle and Feeley Notch Double-Doubles Despite Volleyball’s Setback to MIT

    WORCESTER – Sophomore Alli Davanzo (St. Johns, FL) hit .409 and, along with classmate Lisette Tellez (Miami, FL), notched a double-double as MIT won the last three sets in a 3-1 victory over host WPI on the opening night of NEWMAC volleyball action Tuesday at Harrington Auditorium.
  • Super Saturday: Volleyball Takes Tri-Meet at Wentworth with Mount Ida

    Boston, MA --- WPI moved to 5-1 on the season with a pair of wins Saturday afternoon in Boston. The Crimson and Gray began be defeating Mount Ida 3-1 (25-12, 25-16, 25-17, 25-6) before taking three staight from host Wentworth (25-14, 25-16, 25-18).

    Newton, MA -- The WPI volleyball team went on the road Tuesday and defeated Lasell 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 15-18) on Tuesday evening. The Engineers jump to 3-1 overall while the Lasers remain winless at 0-7.
  • Volleyball Falls to Clark in Worcester City Tournament Title Match

    Leicester, MA --- After dropping the first set of title match, the Clark volleyball team rallied to win the last three sets over WPI and take home the Worcester City Volleyball Tournament crown. The Cougars prevailed 3-1 (18-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-20) to improve to 3-0 on the year. The Engineers dropped their first set, falling to 2-1.
  • Volleyball Sweeps Anna Maria in 2015 Home Opener

    WORCESTER -- WPI used a team effort to blank visiting Anna Maria 3-0 to open the 2015 women’s volleyball campaign on Tuesday night at Harrington Auditorium. The Engineers began their last three campaigns with a victory and have taken the last two home openers under the guidance of third-year head coach Greg Poole.
  • WPI Athletics Reveals 2015 Fall Schedules

    Worcester, MA --- The WPI Athletic Department will reveal the 2014 fall schedules over three days beginning on Tuesday, July 1st. Followers of @WPIAthletics on Twitter will be the first to know when each schedule is released. As a teaser, the competition kicks off on Friday, August 29th with three teams in action. Volleyball begins play in the two-day Regis Tournament against Becker (6pm) and the host Pride (8pm) while Women's Soccer squares off with Southern Maine at 6pm in the Gordon Tournament and Men's Soccer meets Worcester State in the City Tournament at 8pm at Clark.
