Wellesley Hands Women’s Volleyball 3-1 NEWMAC Setback

WORCESTER – Wellesley junior Michelle Li (Scarsdale, NY) waited until the final point to hand out her 2,000th career assist in a 3-1 (25-18, 21-25, 25-16, 25-20) NEWMAC Volleyball triumph over host WPI Saturday in Harrington Auditorium.

Li finished with a match-best 33 helpers as rookie Lauren Gedney (Huntersville, NC) and junior Yasmine Reece (New Rochelle, NY) combined for 27 kills. Junior Samantha Hoang (Elk Grove, CA) delivered 24 digs followed by sophomore Meghan Shoop (Cypress, CA) with 15.

Freshman Amanda Wetmore (Hudson, NH) and junior Casey Hunt (Granby, CT) led the Engineers with 12 and 10 kills, respectively. Junior Victoria Nassar (Salem, NH) came up with 16 digs and senior Ann Kaczowka (Seekonk, MA) totaled 10.WPI

Li setup Gendey to close out the first set and later got the ball to first-year Molly Likes (Oklahoma City, OK) to end the match. All four sets were relatively close early on. The Blue pulled away for a 22-14 advantage in the first while WPI also used a late run en route to the second set win. Wellesley went on to take the final two sets.

Both teams host at 7pm on Tuesday as WPI (4-8, 1-3 NEWMAC) welcomes Mount Holyoke and the Blue (7-3, 4-0 NEWMAC) entertains Smith.
