    WORCESTER -- Junior Colleen Mullins (Andover, MA) delivered a match-high 12 kills, including the clinching swipe, to go with 11 digs as the WPI women’s volleyball team bested Coast Guard, 3-1 (25-15, 25-17, 21-25, 25-21), Tuesday night inside Harrington Auditorium.
  • Bakhtyari Earns Back-to-Back Google Cloud Volleyball Academic All-America Honors

    WORCESTER – WPI senior Azita Bakhtyari (Andover, MA) has been named as a repeat Google Cloud Women’s Volleyball Academic All-America, as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). In addition to joining Stacey Cotton (1988, 1989) as the program’s only back-to-back selections, the duo is now linked as the program’s only two first team selections.

    WORCESTER – WPI’s Victoria Nassar (Atkinson, NH) and Azita Bakhtyari (Andover, MA) have been chosen to compete in the New England Women's Volleyball Association (NEWVA) Senior Classic All-Star Game Sunday, December 2nd at Eastern Nazarene. Casey Hunt (Granby, CT) was tabbed as an honorable mention.
  • Seven Fall Student-Athletes Named to NEWMAC All-Sportsmanship Teams

    Westwood, MA --- WPI seniors Larry Cafaro (Ansonia, CT), Steffany Halfrey (Hubbardston, MA), Mark Landergan (Newburyport, MA) and Sierra ‘Knox’ Palmer (Knoxville, TN) have been named to their respective NEWMAC All-Sportsmanship teams. Juniors Luke Lindholm (Sterling, MA) and Colleen Mullins (Andover, MA), as well as, sophomore Jackie Cardin (Manchester, NH) were also recognized.
  • Bakhtyari Earns Third Google Cloud Women’s Volleyball Academic All-District Nod

    WORCESTER – WPI senior Azita Bakhtyari (Andover, MA) has been named to the Google Cloud Women’s Volleyball Academic All-District I team for the third consecutive year, as voted upon by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) members from Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. The setter, who secured the program’s first CoSIDA Academic All-America in 28 years in 2017, now moves on to the national ballot for a chance to earn back-to-back honors.
  • 72 WPI Fall Student-Athletes Earn NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Honors

    Westwood, MA --- Led by seven three-time honorees, WPI placed 72 fall student-athletes on their respective NEWMAC Academic All-Conference teams. Football led the department with 21 selections while Volleyball boasted a NEWMAC-best nine. Men’s Soccer boasted 11, followed by Women’s Soccer (9) and Field Hockey (8). Women’s Cross Country once again tied its program record with eight and Men’s Cross Country produced six.

  • Fourth-seeded Wellesley Foils Fifth-Seeded Volleyball in NEWMAC Quarterfinal

    Wellesley, MA --- Sophomore Lauren Gedney (Huntersville, NC) recorded a match-high 15 kills to lead fourth-seeded Wellesley to a 3-0 (25-15, 26-24, 25-14) sweep of fifth-seeded WPI in the quarterfinals of the 2018 NEWMAC Volleyball Championship on Tuesday at Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse.
  • Strong Start Not Enough as Volleyball Comes Up Short at Nationally-Ranked MIT

    Cambridge, MA --- In the NEWMAC women's volleyball regular-season finale for both teams, nationally-ranked No. 25 MIT defeated WPI, 3-1 (27-29, 25-16, 25-22, 25-13), on Saturday afternoon. In the victory, MIT senior Carly Silvernale (Bellevue, WA) became the 16th player in program history to reach 1,000 digs while the team amassed 17 blocks, just one shy of tying the Institute record for blocks in a match.

    WORCESTER – Senior Azita Bakhtyari (Andover, MA) and junior Colleen Mullins (Andover, MA) each registered a double-double and sophomore Amanda Wetmore (Hudson, NH) hit .522 with a match-best 13 kills as the WPI women’s volleyball defeated city and NEWMAC rival Clark, 3-0 (25-22, 25-13, 25-13), Tuesday night in Harrington Auditorium.

  • Regionally-Ranked Volleyball Splits With Hamilton and Amherst at Hall of Fame Invitational

    Amherst, MA --- The WPI women’s volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Hall of Fame Invitational Saturday. The Engineers began the day with a 3-2 (25-22, 14-25, 25-21, 21-25, 15-13) triumph over Hamilton and wrapped up the two-day event with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-13) setback to Amherst.
  • Trinity Topples Regionally-Ranked Volleyball in Five-Setter at Hall of Fame Invitational

    Northampton, MA --- Trinity won the final two sets in a 3-2 (13-25, 25-16, 24-26, 25-23, 15-10) victory over WPI friday night in Smith's Scott Gym as part of the Hall of Fame Volleyball Invitational. 
  • Women's Volleyball Claims Four-Set NEWMAC Road Win at Wheaton

    Norton, MA --- Senior Azita Bakhtyari (Andover, MA) notched a double-double while two more Engineers narrowly missed one of their own as the WPI women's volleyball team downed host Wheaton, 3-1 (25-18, 21-25, 25-15, 25-15) in a NEWMAC matchup Tuesday night in Emerson Gymnasium.

    Plattsburgh, NY --- The WPI volleyball team bested host Plattsburgh State, 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-23), and were upended by St. Lawrence, 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-18), Saturday afternoon on the final day of the Cardinal Quad in Memorial Hall.
  • Kwatinetz’ Dozen Hoists Volleyball Past Gordon in Cardinal Quad Opener

    Plattsburgh, NY --- Sophomore Sarah Kwatinetz (Seattle, WA) tallied a match-best 12 kills and the WPI volleyball team hit .230 or better, including a .360 convincing fourth set, as the Engineers defeated Gordon, 3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-20, 25-14), Friday night at Plattsburgh State’s Cardinal Quad.
  • Mullins Nets NEWMAC Volleyball Offensive Athlete of the Week Recognition

    Westwood, MA --- WPI junior Colleen Mullins (Andover, MA) was selected as the NEWMAC Volleyball Offensive Athlete of the Week, as announced Tuesday afternoon. She is the first WPI honoree since fellow outside hitter Melissa Daigle in October of 2015.

  • Volleyball hits .388 in 3-0 NEWMAC Road Triumph at Mount Holyoke

    South Hadley, MA --- Led by junior outside hitter Colleen Mullins (Andover, MA), WPI volleyball hit a season-high .388 as the Engineers posted a 3-0 (25-7, 25-11, 25-17) straight-set victory in NEWMAC action on Tuesday evening. The win moves the Engineers to 10-3 overall and 2-3 in conference play. The Lyons are now 6-6 and 0-5 in the NEWMAC.

    WORCESTER – Senior Azita Bakhtyari (Andover, MA) narrowly missed two double-doubles on the day, and junior Colleen Mullins (Andover, MA) and sophomore Sarah Kwatinetz (Seattle, WA) each tallied 10 kills in the nightcap, as the WPI women’s volleyball team split a twinbill with Springfield and Salem State Saturday afternoon inside Harrington Auditorium. The Pride took the NEWMAC match 25-16, 25-22, 25-21 and the Engineers prevailed 3-1 (25-9, 25-18, 21-25, 25-17) in the final match of the day.

  • Volleyball Dealt First Loss by Babson in NEWMAC Opener

    WORCESTER -- Babson setter Elizabeth Cameron stuffed the stat sheet with 38 assists, nine kills, six digs and three blocks as the Beavers went on the road and defeated WPI 3-1 in the NEWMAC conference volleyball opener for both teams.  
  • Amrein Helps Key Women’s Volleyball’s Sweep of Southern Maine and Fitchburg State

    WORCESTER -- Sophomore Kate Amrein (Nashua, NH) totaled 21 kills as WPI swept Southern Maine and Fitchburg State in a Saturday afternoon women’s volleyball tri-match inside Harrington Auditorium. The Engineers defeated the Huskies 25-19, 25-18, 25-13 and came back to down the Falcons 25-16, 25-11, 25-12. Southern Maine won its match with Fitchburg State 25-11, 25-14, 25-11.

    WORCESTER – Juniors Colleen Mullins (Andover, MA), Abbie Gilbert (Hopkinton, MA) and Kassidy Utheim (Monroe Township, NJ) keyed a late third-set rally as the WPI women’s volleyball team defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology, 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 26-24), Tuesday night in the Sports & Recreation Center.
