Paxton, MA --- Junior Kassidy Utheim (Monroe Township, NJ) recorded a match-best 10 kills as the WPI women's volleyball team went on the road to upend Anna Maria, 3-0 (25-11, 25-21, 26-24), Thursday night in the Fuller Center.
Freshman Jenna Galli (Cold Spring Harbor, NY) posted eight digs, six kills and three service aces. Sophomore Kayleigh Campbell (Wilbraham, MA) came up with 13 digs while freshman Suela Miloshi (Needham, MA) pitched in with 10. Sophomore Kate Amrein (Nashua, NH) and junior Abbie Gilbert (Hopkinton, MA) combined for 17 more while freshman Lilly Taylor (Weymouth, MA) doled out 19 helpers.
Anna Maria senior Victoria Falco (Marlborough, MA) logged a match-high 21 digs and freshman Julia Ramos (Orange, MA) handed out 11 assists. Junior Hannah Mitchell (Pittsfield, MA) and sophomore Abygail Chapdelaine (East Longmeadow, MA) totaled nine kills in the effort.
After the Engineers ran away with the first set, the AMCATS made it interesting in the second and third, narrowly forcing a fourth. The hosts led the final frame early and had set point in sight; however, a service miscue evened it up at 24-24. An ace by Amrein and kill by Utheim secured the team's seventh win of the season.
WPI (7-1) returns to Harrington Auditorium, and NEWMAC action, Saturday with a 1pm match with Springfield. A match with Salem State will follow. Anna Maria (1-6) is at Pine Manor beginning at 1pm Saturday.
