WORCESTER -- Senior Azita Bakhtyari (Andover, MA) handed in a double-double for the third time in as many matches as WPI defeated Salve Regina, 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-20), in a non-conference contest Thursday night in Harrington Auditorium.
With the win, the Engineers up their record to 11-3 while the Seahawks, who staved off a set point in the first and second before looking to force another set with five in the third, are now 10-6.
Bakhtyari doled out a match-best 34 assists and came up with 13 digs while classmate Victoria Nassar (Atkinson, NH) led the team with 14 digs. Junior Colleen Mullins (Andover, MA) and senior Casey Hunt (Granby, CT) also recorded double-digit digs with 11 and 10, respectively. Mullins narrowly missed a double-double by a kill, as did Hunt with two. Sophomores Amanda Wetmore (Hudson, NH) and Sarah Kwatinetz (Seattle, WA) also tallied eight kills to go along with five from junior Abbie Gilbert (Hopkinton, MA).
Junior Annie Donahue (Chelmsford, MA) led the Salve Regina offense with a match-high 13 kills while freshman Nicole Karabaich (Greenlawn, NY) added seven. Sophomore Katie Linekin (Ridgefield, CT) posted a match-best 16 digs followed by senior Megan Parham (Tulsa, OK) with 13 and Karabaich with 11. Rookie Madison Lee (Dover, FL) served up three aces. Senior Erin Proctor (Canton, MA) dished off 32 helpers.
WPI jumps back into the NEWMAC portion of the schedule Saturday with a 1pm home match versus Emerson. Salve Regina is also in action Saturday, hosting Worcester State at 10am.
