WORCESTER – Senior Victoria Nassar (Atkinson, NH) surpassed 1,000 digs and classmate Casey Hunt (Granby, CT) handed in one of WPI's two double-doubles as the women's volleyball team topped Emerson, 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-15), Saturday afternoon inside Harrington Auditorium.
The Engineers improve to 12-3 overall and even out at 3-3 in NEWMAC action while the Lions move to 9-8 and 1-5.
Nassar totaled 14 digs to end the day with 1,002 for her career. Hunt smashed 11 kills and came up with a dozen digs and senior Azita Bakhtyari (Andover, MA) handed out 41 assists and dug out 16 for the Engineers. Sophomore Amanda Wetmore (Hudson, NH) paced the home team with 13 kills, followed by classmate Sarah Kwatinetz (Seattle, WA) with 12. Junior Abbie Gilbert (Hopkinton, MA) assisted on three blocks in the effort.
Sophomore Grace Tepper (Kensington, MD) amassed a match-high 15 kills while freshman Lauren Quan (San Diego, CA) registered a match-best 17 digs for Emerson, staved off a set point in the opening stanza. Senior Kelly Guerra (Randolph, NJ) added three block assists.
WPI will be on the road until October 23, beginning with a trip to Regis for a trimatch with the host Pride (11am) and Worcester State (1pm) next Saturday. Emerson opens a four-match homestand Tuesday with a 7pm matchup versus Wheaton.
