Gorham, ME --- For the second straight Saturday, the WPI volleyball team split a tri-match. The Engineers defeated host Southern Maine 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 25-13, 25-10) in the opener before falling 3-1 (25-22, 25-17, 22-25, 25-20) to Maine Maritime in its final match of the afternoon.
Versus the Huskies, the Crimson and Gray hit an eye-popping .336 and just made one hitting error in each of the last two sets. Colleen Mullins (Andover, MA) and Abbie Gilbert (Hopkinton, MA) both had 10 kills while Sarah Kwatinetz (Seattle, MA) swatted nine kills and did not have an error in 24 attempts. Mullins amassed 12 digs and joined Catherine Reynolds () - 36 assists and 13 digs - with double-doubles. Amanda Wetmore (Hudson, NH) tallied eight kills and Kayleigh Campbell (Wilbraham, MA) shared match-high honors with 17 digs.
Kwatinetz continued her hot hitting against the Mariners, posting a .375 hitting percentage with 10 kills and just one error in 24 tries. Mullins, Gilbert and Wetmore all finished with seven kills while Maddie Sanborn (Londonderry, NH) tallied six. Reynolds finished with 32 assists and was joined by Suela Miloshi (Needham, MA) with 12 digs.
WPI (3-2) makes its 2019 Harrington Auditorium debut on Tuesday evening, hosting Elms at 7pm.
