Waltham, MA --- Emerson White (Lexington, KY) hit .464 with 15 kills to lead the Brandeis women's volleyball team in a 3-1 (25-15, 23-25, 25-19, 25-22) win over visiting WPI Thursday night in Red Auerbach Arena.
With the win, the Judges improve to 4-10 ahead of a trip to Emory for a pair of UAA matches on Sunday. WPI, who heads to Emerson for a 1pm NEWMAC contest on Saturday, remains above .500 at 8-7.
Emma Bartlett (Duxbury, MA) added 13 kills for the hosts while Marissa Borgert (Blaine, MN) handed out 41 of the team's 44 assists. Belle Scott (Portland, OR) narrowly missed a double-double with nine kills and 10 digs, and Kaitlyn Oh (Santa Clara, CA) recorded a match-best 26 digs in the effort. White and Borgert also totaled 11 block assists.
Abbie Gilbert (Hopkinton, MA) paced the Engineers with 10 swipes to go with eight digs. Also coming close to a double-double was Colleen Mullins (Andover, MA) with nine kills and a team-high 15 digs. Amanda Wetmore (Hudson, NH), Suela Miloshi (Needham, MA) and Sarah Kwatinetz (Seattle, WA) each registered six kills on the night. Lilly Taylor (Weymouth, MA) handed off 32 of WPI's 36 helpers and logged five digs while Jenna Galli (Cold Spring Harbor, NY) posted nine digs to go with another handful by Kate Amrein (Nashua, NH).
Trailing 24-11 in the first set, the Engineers took advantage of kills by Taylor and Kwatinetz, and a pair of miscues to stave off a quartet of set points. A swipe by White closed out the frame. WPI went on to even up the match by taking the second set only to see Brandeis take the third and a very close fourth. Looking to force the fifth set, the guests were ahead as late as 22-21 but kills by Oh and White prompted a timeout. A pair of miscues then ended the evening for WPI.
