Volleyball’s Team Effort Fuels Home Sweep of Regis and Fitchburg State

WORCESTER – Amanda Wetmore (Hudson, NH) tallied 11 kills against and Lilly Taylor (Weymouth, MA) handed out 23 assists in the opener as Taylor and Catherine Reynolds (Concord, NH) combined for at least 24 helpers in each match as WPI defeated Regis (25-23, 25-16, 25-15) and Fitchburg State (25-8, 25-9, 25-6) in a non-conference women's volleyball trimatch Saturday in Harrington Auditorium. The Pride picked up a 3-0 win over the Falcons in the middle match with set scores of 25-16, 25-15, 25-14.

Following Wetmore in the kill column was Suela Miloshi (Needham, MA) and Kaleigh Hess (Berea, KY) with five each. Reynolds returned to the lineup with five assists in one set played. Jenna Galli (Cold Spring Harbor, NY) served up three aces to go with a pair each by Reynolds, Sarah Kwatinetz (Seattle, WA), Maddie Sanborn (Londonderry, NH) and Kate Amrein (Nashua, NH). Colleen Mullins (Andover, MA) registered a match-best 10 digs and Kayleigh Campbell (Wilbraham, MA) added six for the Engineers. Renee Sawka (Westford, MA), meanwhile, was 2-for-2 in attack attempts.

Katryna Veasey (Quincy, MA) and Rita Dow (Nashua, NH) each smashed six kills for Regis. Tori Ondris (Mineola, NY) handed out 13 assists and Emily Fagundo (Dover, NH) contributed with eight. The duo also combined for 13 digs. Fagundo and Meg Adams (Ware, MA) each tallied a pair of service aces.

Veasey then totaled 10 kills and Valerie Whalen (Stoughton, MA) added eight for the Pride. Fagundo paced the team with 13 assists and Ondris pitched in with 10. Mica van der Meulen (Colorado Springs, CO) came up with 10 digs and Dow registered a pair of aces. Lauren Butt (Topsfield, MA) stonewalled a pair of blocks.

Leah Sheehan (Billerica, MA) paced the Falcons with six kills, as did Lauren Ricciardi (Tewksbury, MA) with nine digs. Perry Joubert (Seekonk, MA) and Jaquelyn Manyak (Bolton, MA) each handed out a quartet of assists.

Sanborn led the Engineers with eight kills in the nightcap, followed by Hess and Kwatinetz with seven apiece. Reynolds and Taylor each doled out a dozen helpers while Amrein amassed 13 digs and served four aces.

Ricciardi connected on a trio of kills and, along with Chloe Guzman (Pawtucket, CT), had five digs. Amy Cohelo (Bellingham, MA) added four assists and Guzman also served up a pair of aces.

WPI (10-8) is back in Harrington Tuesday for a 7pm matchup versus Suffolk. Regis (7-13) begins a three-match homestand Wednesday with Saint Joseph's (ME) at 7pm and Fitchburg State (3-12) is home Tuesday for a 6pm MASCAC contest with Bridgewater State.
