WORCESTER – Catherine Reynolds (Concord, NH) delivered a double-double of 28 assists and 12 digs while Suela Miloshi (Needham, MA) narrowly missed out on a double-double of her own with 10 digs and eight kills as WPI bested visiting Wheaton, 3-1 (27-25, 12-25, 25-19, 25-10), in a NEWMAC volleyball match Tuesday night inside Harrington Auditorium.
The Engineers, who improve to 13-9 and 4-3, are at Coast Guard Friday at 6pm while the Lyons (16-10, 4-4) are at Rowan Saturday for a trimatch with King's (PA).
Colleen Mullins (Andover, MA) paced the home team with 10 kills to go with seven digs, and Amanda Wetmore (Hudson, NH) added nine kills, three block assists and a pair of aces. Abbie Gilbert (Hopkinton, MA) chipped in with seven swipes and eight digs while Sarah Kwatinetz (Seattle, WA) contributed with three kills, six digs and a pair of aces.
Wheaton was led by Adara Hamilton (Mercer Island, WA) with a dozen kills, followed by Bailey Madrzyk (Barrington, IL) with 10 and Julia Palomba (San Carlos, CA) with eight. Becca Houghton (Emmaus, PA) handed out 32 assists as Palomba and Ariana Rajaee (Marlborough, CT) each served up a pair of aces. Sophie Wilhelm (Saunderstown, RI) totaled 12 digs while Kyra Mattera (Narragansett, RI) was in on three blocks.
After an extremely tight opening set, Wheaton ran away with the second behind a .393 attack percentage. Both teams fared better in the third and fourth but it was WPI who hit .464 and .364 securing the victory. The Lyons hit at a .209 and .259 clip, respectively.
