Worcester, MA --- Margarita Perez-Maza (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) and Cameron Gill (Shrewsbury, MA) combined for 29 kills as Clark closed outs its home season with a 3-1 victory over WPI in a NEWMAC volleyball match played Tuesday evening in the Kneller Center. The hosts won by set scores of 23-25, 25-17, 25-14, 25-16).
The Cougars, winners of five in a row, are now 11-17 overall and 2-6 conference play. WPI slips to 14-12 on the season and 4-5 against NEWMAC foes. The Engineers got some good news after the match as Wheaton's 3-1 road victory at Springfield secured a NEWMAC Tournament berth for the Crimson and Gray for the second straight season and fourth time in five years.
Amanda Wetmore (Hudson, NH) reached double digits in kills with 10 while Maddie Sanborn (Londonderry, NH) was just one shy with nine. Colleen Mullins (Andover, MA) posted a team-best 13 digs to go along seven kills and Abbie Gilbert (Hopkinton, MA) and Jenna Galli (Cold Spring Harbor, NY) both registered 10 digs. Sarah Kwatinetz (Seattle, WA) and Kaleigh Hess (Berea, KY) each swatted four block assists and Catherine Reynolds (Concord, NH) and Lilly Taylor (Weymouth, MA) teamed up to dish out 20 and eight assists respectively.
Perez-Maza led all players with 17 kills while Gil totaled 12 for the Cougars. Sophia Torino (Los Angeles, CA) racked up 37 assists, Paige Kacherian (Rowley, MA) totaled seven block assists and Marimo Oka (Fukuoka, Japan) posted a match-best 22 digs.
Both teams close out NEWMAC regular season play at noon on Saturday. WPI hosts MIT while Clark heads to Smith for its season finale.
