Westwood, MA --- WPI junior Amanda Wetmore (Hudson, NH) was selected as a NEWMAC Volleyball All-Conference second team selection, as voted upon by the league's head coaches following the regular season. Senior Abbie Gilbert (Hopkinton, MA) was the program's NEWMAC All-Sportsmanship honoree.
Wetmore emerged as a middle hitter for the Engineers in 2019. The junior posted a hitting percentage of .279 while leading the Crimson in points (315), kills (269), kills per set (2.61), aces (44), block assists (54) and total blocks (71).
She reached double figures in kills 13 times, including a career-best 21 in a 3-2 road win at Salve Regina and 17 while adding 10 digs en route to posting her first career double-double versus Eastern Connecticut. Wetmore blast 15 kills and hit an impressive .361 in an early season match with Endicott, a team that won its conference and is participating this weekend in the NCAA Tournament.
Wetmore is the eighth different Engineer to be recognized by the NEWMAC or NEW 8 and is the fourth WPI selection in five years following a lengthy absence.
WPI finished the season 14-14 and earned a spot in the NEWMAC Tournament for the second straight year and fifth time in the last six seasons.
