WORCESTER -- WPI junior Sarah Kwatinetz (Seattle, WA) has been selected as a member of the Volleyball Academic All-District I team, as voted upon by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) members from Massachusetts and Maine. It marks the fourth straight season that the Engineers have had a representative on the team as 2018 Academic All-America Azita Bakhtyari had been honored the last three years.
Kwatinetz is now under consideration for Academic All-America accolades.
Three-year starter hit a robust .322 as a middle hitter for the Crimson and Gray. Kwatinetz reached double figures in kills six times this season, including a career-high equaling 14 in a 3-2 victory at Salve Regina on September 26th. The junior finished third on the team in kills (195) and second in blocks (70).
Kwatinetz, a civil engineering major, boasts a 3.92 GPA and is a two-time NEWMAC All-Academic team member. She has earned a spot on the Dean's List during each of her terms at WPI. Her IQP project slated for Spring of 2020 in Bucharest, Romania while her Humanities and Arts Component was in urban history.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at her current institution, must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable) and she has completed one full calendar year at her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
