WORCESTER -- WPI's Amanda Wetmore (Hudson, NH) and Catherine Reynolds (Concord, NH) were selected to the New England Women's Volleyball Association (NEWVA) All-New England and All-Rookie teams while Abbie Gilbert (Hopkinton, MA) and Colleen Mullins (Andover, MA) were chosen to participate in the association's Senior Classic All-Star Event scheduled for Sunday, December 8th at Eastern Nazarene.
Wetmore earned a spot on the All-New England second team. The junior emerged as a middle hitter for the Engineers in 2019. Wetmore posted a hitting percentage of .279 while leading the Crimson in points (315), kills (269), kills per set (2.61), aces (44), block assists (54) and total blocks (71) while earning second team All-NEWMAC honors.
Reynolds has a breakout freshman season while being named to the association's All-Rookie squad. The newcomer led the Crimson and Gray with 705 assists, an average of 7.83 helpers per set. Reynolds also amassed a team-best 261 digs and posted an impressive 14 double-doubles.
Gilbert totaled 138 kills and a career-high 211 digs for WPI. The senior right side also added 24 service aces and 26 total blocks. Gilbert reached double figures in kills three times in 2019, including back-to-back performances versus in victories over Gordon (12) and Southern Maine (11) in early September.
Mullins was second on the Engineers in both kills (200) and digs (223). The senior outside hitter opened the season hitting .480% with 14 kills in a victory over Worcester State and also reached 14 kills with a career-high tying 15 digs in a dramatic 3-2 triumph over Eastern Connecticut in late October.
WPI finished the season 14-14 and earned a spot in the NEWMAC Tournament for the second straight year and fifth time in the last six seasons.
