Men’s Cross Country Wins 17th Straight Worcester City Title

Paxton, MA --- The WPI Men's Cross Country team placed six runners in the top 10 en route to winning its 17th straight Worcester City Meet Saturday morning at Moore State Park in Paxton. The Engineers totaled 23 points, besting second place Fitchburg State (47 points) to capture their 38th city crown in the 44-year history of the event.

Lane Thornton (Richmond, VT) came in second overall, and led all WPI runners with a time of 29:03.  Twelve seconds later Scott Burger (Huntington Station, NY) finished third overall (29:15).  A trio of Engineers, Mitch Giroux (Dighton, MA), Jeremy Francisco (Dartmouth, MA) and Craig Mitchell (Hanson, MA) raced to fifth (29:55),  sixth (30:02), and seventh (30:07), respectively.  Lucas Smith-Horn (Ellington, CT) rounded out the top-ten for the Crimson and Gray with a ninth place (30:26) showing, while Dominic Gonzalez (Lowell, MA) shored up the WPI top-seven by finishing in 11th place overall (30:39). 

Men's Cross Country ventures to CCRI next Saturday for the Tri-States Invitational at 11am.
