Springfield, MA --- The Engineers of the WPI men's cross country team came in first at the Western New England Invitational on Saturday, running past 15 other programs from throughout the region. WPI had three runners in the top seven, and seven runners among the top twenty. Shane Ruddy (Seneca Falls, NY) led the charge for the Crimson and Gray, coming in fourth overall with a time of 27:13.75.
Lucas Smith-Horn (Ellington, CT) was next with a sixth place finish and a time 27:17.81. Right behind him in seventh was Dominic Gonzalez (Lowell, MA) at 27:19.75. Completing the Engineer top eight were Scott Burger (Huntington Station, NY - 13th/27:44.75), Andrew Zayac (Plymouth, MA - 15th/27:50.12), Josh Brodin (Mansfield, MA - 17th/27:52.72), Robert Hollinger (Averill Park, NY - 20th/27:55.72) and Brendan McKeogh (Leicester, MA - 31st/28:33.94).
Antoine Gisore (Concord, NH) of New England College came in first overall in the race with a time of 26:08.47.
The team races next on Sunday, October 30th as they head to the NEWMAC Championships Hosted by Wellesley at Franklin Park. That event begins at 11am.
