Boston, MA --- Amy Babeu (Groveland, MA) led the WPI charge with a 25th place showing as the Engineers finished eighth at the NEWMAC Women's Cross Country Championships on Monday at Boston's venerable Franklin Park. MIT nabbed its fifth consecutive team title while Randelle Boots (Seekonk, MA), who was competing in her first meet of the season, repeated as individual champion.
Babeu turned in a time of 20:18, 24 seconds better than her time on the course earlier this month at the All-New England championships. That was the theme of the day for the Crimson and Gray as six place winners improved upon their October 8th time on the same course.
Maria Grandoni (Framingham, MA) shaved nearly a minute off of her time in the 5K race, placing 36th (20:39) while Hannah McCallum (Lafayette, CO) was close behind in 40th (20:42). Mary Schwartz (Quincy, MA) began a stretch of four WPI runners in nine finishers when she places 76th (21:34). Others in that grouping included Emily Dudley (Woburn, MA) in 80th (21:49), Jessica McKniff (Duxbury, MA) in 83rd (21:55) and Lauren Waring in 84th (21:58).
WPI looks ahead now to the NCAA New England Regionals in Brunswick, ME. The event, hosted by Bowdoin, is on Saturday, November 12th.
