Northampton, MA --- The WPI men edged a pair of NEWMAC rivals to take the top spot at the Smith Cross Country Invitational in Northampton, MA. The Engineers tallied 48 points with three runners finishing in the top ten. Following closely behind were second place Springfield with 54 points and Coast Guard in third with 58.
Sophomore Ryan Moran (Pembroke, MA) placed fourth and freshman Tobin Dancy (Shrewsbury, MA) finished sixth to pace WPI. Moran had a time of 27:22.90 while Dancy finished close behind with a time of 27:25.21. Fellow underclassman Andrew Zayac (Plymouth, MA ) also had a top ten finish with an eight place showing (27:55.80).
Another trio of Crimson and Gray runners also cracked the top twenty with Robert Hollinger (Averill Park, NY) placing 14th ( 28:29.26). Following just nine seconds behind in16th place was Jeremy Francisco (Dartmouth, MA) with a time of 28:38.24. Senior Josh Brodin (Mansfield, MA) finished 19th (28:53.26).
Junior Dominic Gonzalez (Lowell, MA) rounded out the top seven finishers for the Engineer's finishing in 21st place with a time of 29:01.01
WPI is back in action on Saturday when they take part in the UMASS Dartmouth Invitational.
