Hewey and Women's WPI Cross Country Perfect at Worcester City Meet

Paxton, MA --- Vicky Hewey (Sanford, ME) raced to her fourth straight individual title and the WPI women's cross country team registered its fifth consecutive championship at the Worcester City Meet held at Moore State Park in Paxton on Saturday morning.  The Engineers placed the first five runners totaling a perfect 15 points well ahead of second place Worcester State's 68. 

Hewey ran her fastest time career time on the course en route to becoming the only woman to claim four championships.  The senior took the win in a time of 19:57.20.  

Julie Tevenan (Weymouth, MA) placed second (20:04.93) while Maria Grandoni  (Framingham, MA) was third in a time of 20:11.30.  Amy Babeu (Groveland, MA) crossed the line in fourth (20:28.27) and Hannah McCallum (Lafayette, CO) secured the shutout by finishing fifth (20:31.06). 

Other Engineers to place were Caitlin Rush (Nashua, NH) in eighth (21:11.95) and Jessica Orr (Westerly, RI) in 13th (21:34.82). 

WPI is off next weekend before heading to Westfield on Saturday, October 6th for the James Early Invitational.
