Bethlehem, PA --- The WPI men's cross country team posted a 16th-place finish in a race that featured four nationally-ranked squads and a pair of regionally-ranked Division II teams at the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh on Saturday afternoon.
The Engineers finished ahead of regionally-ranked No. 7 Adelphi, who was 29th, and No. 10 Assumption, who placed 38th. No. 20 Princeton, the only nationally-ranked Division I team in the race, claimed the team title, while a trio of nationally-ranked Division III teams, No. 14 Haverford, No. 33 Swarthmore and No. 29 Susquehanna claimed second, fifth and 13th place, respectively.
Oddly enough, all three Worcester teams that made the trip were in the same race as WPI and Assumption, who unseated the Engineers last week as the Worcester City Champions, were joined by Holy Cross who finished 12th.
Senior Ryan Moran (Pembroke, MA) led the Crimson and Gray with a 28th-place 25:45 and sophomore Austin Scott (Waddington, NY) posted 34th-place time of 25:50. A trio of freshman placed 114th, 119th and 149th as Justin Trott (North Hampton, NH) turned in a 26:18, Jason Bugarin (Fitchburg, MA) clocked a 26:32 and Tristam Winship (Bedford, NH) crossed the finish line in a time of 26:51. Senior Andrew Zayac (Plymouth, MA) was 179th (27:11) and junior Tobin Dancy (Shrewsbury, MA) was 191st (27:17).
Sophomore Nathan Stomberg (West Greenwich, RI) was a fraction of a second behind Dancy for a 202nd overall placing while classmate Daniel Stomski (Dudley, MA) was 224th (27:32) and senior Kyle Gerlach (Smithfield, RI) was 226th (27:32) overall.
