Boston, MA --- The WPI men's cross country team finished 24th out of 39 teams and was the seventh-best Division III team at the NEICAAA All-New England Championships held at Franklin Park on Saturday. Division I Providence claimed the team title with 72 points while the Engineers posted 665.
Six of the ten teams in the New England coaches poll, in which the Crimson and Gray are receiving votes, participated in the event. In addition to being the second of four NEWMAC teams, WPI also placed ahead of city foes Division I Holy Cross (25th) and Division II Assumption (32nd).
Senior Ryan Moran (Pembroke, MA) crossed the finish line 75th in a time of 25:33.5 and sophomore Austin Scott (Waddington, NY) followed just under nine seconds later in 89th (25:42.4). Freshman Justin Trott (North Hampton, NH) was 153rd (26:12.5) and classmate Jason Bugarin (Fitchburg, MA) was 173rd (26:30.7) while senior Andrew Zayac (Plymouth, MA) was two runners behind with a time of 26:36. Sophomore Nathan Stomberg (West Greenwich, RI) completed his race in 186th (26:48.7) and freshman Tristam Winship (Bedford, NH) placed 192nd (26:52.7).
The Engineers are off until October 25th when the team travels to the Williams Invitational.
