Williamstown, MA --- The WPI women's cross country team received top 10 finishes from junior Julie Tevenan (Weymouth, MA), freshman Emily Newman (Easton, MA) and freshman Lea Strangio (Watertown, MA) as the team finished second out of six collegiate entries at the Plansky Invitational hosted by Williams on Saturday. The host Ephs won the event with 24 points while the Engineers posted 55.
Tevenan clocked a 20:16 and Newman turned in a 20:38 to place sixth and seventh, respectively. Srangio, meanwhile, edged out a trio of Williams harriers with a 10th-place 21:17. Sophomore Liz Hansen (Richmond, RI) finished 14th (21:31) while senior Maria Grandoni (Framingham, MA) was 19th (21:51) and senior Caitlin Walde (Edmonds, WA) came home 23rd (22:12). Freshman Jasmine Higuera (Riverside, CA) placed 45th (23:33) as classmate Maggie LaRoche (Madison, NH) was 46th (23:44) and sophomore Julia Smith (Cranston, RI) was 47th (23:44).
WPI travels to Smith for the NEWMAC Cross Country Championships on Saturday. The women's race is slated for a 12pm start.
