Men’s Cross Country Races to Program-Best Second Place at NEWMAC Championships

Northampton, MA --- Sophomore Austin Scott (Waddington, NY), senior Ryan Moran (Pembroke, MA) and freshman Justin Trott (North Hampton, NH) were named NEWMAC All-Conference as the trio led WPI to a program-best second place showing at the 2014 NEWMAC Cross Country Championships, hosted by Smith, on Saturday morning.

No. 11 MIT secured its 17th straight conference title with a perfect 15 points as the Engineers amassed 58 and Coast Guard, receiving votes in the latest USTFCCCA top 35, collected 79.

Scott, who was third at the one mile mark, finished eighth (26:01) while Moran, a two-time NEWMAC All-Conference honoree, was 11th (26:19) and Trott was 13th (26:35). Senior Andrew Zayac (Plymouth, MA) placed 16th (26:45) as freshmen Jason Bugarin (Fitchburg, MA) and Tristam Winship (Bedford, NH) were 17th (26:48) and 25th (27:04), respectively. Sophomore Nathan Stomberg (West Greenwich, RI) rounded out the Engineer top seven with a 26th-place 27:07.

WPI ventures to Stanley Park in Westfield, MA for the 2014 ECAC Division III Cross Country Championships, hosted by Westfield State, on Saturday. The men's race is slated for an 11am start.
