Paxton, MA --- Junior Austin Scott (Waddington, NY) captured the individual title while Ryan Moran (Pembroke, MA) took home the Brian Savilonis Award for top finishing senior as WPI handily won the Worcester City Championship, hosted by Worcester State at Moore State Park, for the 21st time in 22 years on Saturday.
The Engineers (15 points) took the top seven scoring spots and accounted for the top eight collegiate finishers, and nine of the top 10. Clark (58) finished second while Fitchburg State (95) was third and Western New England (97) was fourth. Host Worcester State (122) came home fifth followed by Anna Maria (176).
Scott paced the field with a time of 26:46.3 as Moran was .1 seconds behind. An alumni entry came in third overall while sophomore Justin Trott (North Hampton, NH) was the third collegiate finisher in a time of 27:12.8. Senior Tobin Dancy (Shrewsbury, MA) and junior Nathan Stomberg (West Greenwich, RI) rounded out the top five with times of 27:17.3 and 27:26.5, respectively.
Sophomore Jason Bugarin (Fitchburg, MA) posted a 27:28.6 for sixth and classmate Tristam Winship (Bedford, NH) clocked a 27:30.7 for seventh. Freshman Michael Brady (Medway, MA) came home eighth (27:31.1) and senior Anthony Gallo (Rocky Hill, CT) was 10th (28:26.7).
WPI returns to action on October 10 with its first visit of the season to Franklin Park for the All-New England Championships.
