BOSTON -- Graduate Student Ryan Moran (Pembroke, MA) posted WPI's best-ever individual finish as he helped lead the team to its second consecutive runner-up placing at the NEWMAC Cross Country Championships, hosted by Wellesley, Sunday afternoon at Franklin Park. As a team, the Engineers also set the program record for fewest points at the conference meet (49). No. 10 MIT needed only 17 points to claim its 18th straight title.
Moran finished fourth in a time of 25:40 as junior Austin Scott (Waddington, NY) came home seventh (25:48). Sophomore Justin Trott (North Hampton, NH) and freshman Michael Brady (Medway, MA) joined Moran and Scott on the NEWMAC Men's Cross Country All-Conference Team with 12th- (26:30) and 14th- (26:34) place efforts.
Junior Nathan Stomberg (West Greenwich, RI) was two spots out of All-NEWMAC consideration with a 16th-place 26:42 while sophomore Tristam Winship (Bedford, NH) was just outside the top 20 with a 21st-place time of 27:02. Junior Daniel Mortimer (Shrewsbury, MA) rounded out the WPI top seven, and led a trio of Engineers that crossed the finish line 27th through 29th, with a 27:27.
Seniors Anthony Gallo (Rocky Hill, CT) (29th – 27:33), Tobin Dancy (Shrewsbury, MA) (35th – 27:42), Lucas Roy (Bourne, MA) (36th – 27:49), Nathan Varney (East Longmeadow, MA) (79th – 31:12) and Sean Murphy (Atkinson, NH) (82nd – 31:52) also competed for the Engineers.
WPI heads to Williams Saturday for the ECAC Championships.
